Audi A5 SPORTBACK After the Mercedes CLS and Volkswagen’s Passat CC, Audi now enters the new five-door coupe segment.
Following the A5 and AF convertible is the A5 Sportback, a model that could be a hit thanks mainly to its versatility.
There’s no doubt that this version, which has just recently made its way to the dealers, will be a role model thanks to its different characteristics.
An aggressive look but the interior of a sedan and the boot of an Avant, these are the arguments that this new entry has going for it. The Sportback is an ideal mix of genres with its frameless windows and hatchback offering boot space between 480 and 980 cubic litres.
Longer but also wider than an A4, the A5 Sportback also sports a line tighter line, which lets it retain the aggressive aspect that characterises the A5 Coupe.
There six engine to choose from; three petrol with the most powerful delivering 265 brake horsepower and three TDI. We test drove the most powerful diesel motor, the 240bhp V6 3-litre, coupled with the seven-speed S-tronic automatic gearbox and quarto system.
With this package the A5 is plenty lively and has unbeatable road handling qualities.
Everything from the automatic transmission to shock settings can be adjusted from the dashboard that with its Ambition finish creates a cockpit feel with the many changes that can be made as well as the numerous multi-media functions.
The A5 Sportback is an outstanding example of mixing today’s most important qualities in a vehicle, good looks, performance and roominess. The 2-litre TFSI attraction sells from €33,800, while the 3-litre TDI Ambition luxury with all the options that we test drove comes in at just under €60,000.
