Intro: THE MOST COMPLETE OF THE BIG SCOOTERS

Honda SilverwingAppearing shortly after the T-max, the Honda scooter had joined its adversary on the choice of the twin-cylinder but it was the only one at this time to lay out such a cavalry thanks to its 582cc. It produces 49bhp of power and a torque of 5,1mkg and is less than that of the Burgman, but with a lower mass and thus a better weight-power ratio. It makes however the difference in town where it arranges its power behind an honest handiness. Its largest defect is perhaps its price: 8535 euros.

Esthetique: ELEGANT AND PRACTICAL

Honda SilverwingMeasuring in at 2,26 meters this scooter is imposing and elegant at the same time. To such a point that it doesn’t really resemble a scooter, which marks its membership into the large category. Indeed, the imposing front bodywork integrates the headlights and indicators, retaining the shape of the cowling of the scooter. The same can be said for the dashboard. The controls, directly resulting from the motorbike production, are at the same time complete and practical. Concerning storage, the Silver Wing outclasses the competition with two storage boxes on the front cowling in addition to the traditional trunk placed under the seat.

Motorization: WITHOUT FEAR AND REPROACH

Thanks to the twin-cylinder in line engine, this "scooter with the long course" does not fear putting in the miles. The power of 49bhp and a torque of 5 mkg easily manage to drive the 204 kg of the machine. City, road and even motorway, the Silver Wing extends its reach by showing its ease whatever the nature of the ground. Moreover, the 16-litre tank and small appetite spread out the visits to the service stations.

On the road: SECURING

Honda SilverwingThe behaviour of the machine suggests tranquillity more than sport. Also, the flexible absorption, necessary for comfort, makes for a lazy feeling in the curves. On this point, it is lacking compared to the Yamaha 500 T max, a less powerful rival however. Except on this point, the only reproaches to be addressed to the Silver Wing are related to the height of the nonadjustable front bodywork and the absence of ABS. Such a system would have perfectly assisted the existing coupling of the front and rear, quite useful for the neophytes. Unfortunately, Honda has not envisaged this equipment. More tenantable for a scooter for a similar obstruction and an equivalent versatility from here on, it constitutes a real threat for the motorbikes. The pleasure of control is less....
