AIS: Lola announces Thruxton sports car race

Lola has used the Autosport International Show to announce its plans for an unrestricted sports car at Thruxton in August.

The Lola Heritage International Sports Car Challenge will be held on a rare unlimited noise day at Thruxton and run by the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC). An army of Lola sports racers are expected to descend on the Hampshire track with the field to include everything from the iconic Lola T70 to the evocative 2-litre series.

Lola has a successful and winning history at Thruxton with several key victories in the glory days of the 60s and 70s. Notable victories include the 1969 Embassy Trophy won by the great Brian Redman in a Lola T70 MkIIIB. In the same model, 1967 World Champion Denny Hulme triumphed months later in the Kodak Trophy. Several MkIIIBs, including the official Continuation models are sure to be in the field next summer as a unique grid of Lolas thunders in to town.

The race is the first to be announced by the freshly announced Lola Heritage department that run from within the Lola factory. Several more events are set to be confirmed for 2010.
