F1: Senna to stay with Hispania

Bruno Senna will race HRT for the remainder of the season, despite replacing him with Sakon Yamamoto for this weekend’s British GP.

The Spanish squad made the surprise announcement that Senna would not be racing at Silverstone in a statement released late on Thursday evening, prompting speculation that the Brazilian had lost his seat.

However, a further statement made on Friday has said that the team simply wanted to give Yamamoto an ‘opportunity’ to race in Britain and that Senna would be back for the next round in Germany in two weeks time and for the remainder of the 2010 season.

“Hispania Racing, HRT F1 Team has decided to give an opportunity to one of its four drivers, Sakon Yamamoto, for this race, the British Grand Prix,” the team said.

“In respect to the rumours about Bruno Senna’s current status with Hispania Racing, HRT F1 Team, the team wants to confirm that Bruno Senna has all the support of the Spanish team, that he remains one of the Hispania Racing, HRT F1 Team official drivers and that he will be continuing to drive in the remaining races of the 2010 Formula 1 World Championship.”

Yamamoto got his first run in HRT’s Dallara-built car in Free Practice at Silverstone on Friday, but was 1.5 seconds off the pace of team-mate Karun Chandhok in the second session.
