I don't see anywhere that this is UK only MarkFred revealed on another forum this is a Motors TV UK only deal.
I don't see anywhere that this is UK only Mark, so lets hope it will be on Sunday. FIA GT is one of the few championships I don't follow, mostly because of the lousy broadcasts of DSF. However with Spa coming up I would be very much interested in getting to know who's up front and who to watch for next month.
By the way, back in 2006 MotorsTV already broadcasted highlights of both FIA GT and FIA GT3.
FIA GT Championship comes to Motors TV – LIVE Motors TV (Sky Channel 413, Virgin Media 545) will screen round 4 of the FIA GT Championship LIVE from Oschersleben on Sunday having agreed a deal to take over the coverage for the rest of the season. The ‘High Speed Television’ channel already boasts an impressive portfolio of sportscar coverage, including live Le Mans Series and American Le Mans Series action and highlights of the British, French and Belgian GT championships, and now completes the set of the world’s top sportscar series. Motors TV’s Head of Programming Frédéric Viger said: “We are delighted to have added the FIA GT Championship to our featured live championships. It is the world’s most prestigious GT-racing category and the races so far this year have been very closely fought. “With four drivers tied at the top of the GT1 standings, and just five points covering the top eight, Sunday’s race at Oschersleben is set to be a fascinating one for our viewers to enjoy.” The FIA GT Championship features classes for GT1 and GT2 machinery and includes entries from prestigious marques such as Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Corvette, Maserati, Ferrari and Porsche. The series is made up of ten, two-hour races at some of Europe’s finest circuits and in 2008 will conclude with a trip to San Luis in Argentina. Sunday’s live and uninterrupted coverage begins at 12.00 UK time. ENDS. Motors TV, the High Speed Television Channel, provides the widest coverage of international motorsport, with exclusive events and more than 75 championships transmitted in 54 countries and close to 15 million households subscribing by satellite, cable and ADSL.
To give ITV a slice of credit, they showed two races out of three live. However, they didn't seem to be planning to show Oschersleben at all which is rubbish.
It's a bit upsetting to see 'good news' posted and the bad news bears are the first ones to respond about it. Unfortunately, there are already national agreements in place - maybe poor ones in comparison with Motors (but still better than ITV's nothing) in other countries which has probably meant the deal is for the UK only.
But as Frederic himself has posted at Ten-Tenths - 'that is for this year' - that may be a hint that Motors may be able to expand that next year - I'm certain the SRO have had enough running around trying to grab a broadcaster in every country right before the start of every season, and Motors TV is a perfect solution to that problem.
spa live in full, please??
It is very simple why Motors TV shows it only in UK.
In Germany Premiere owns the rights for the FIA-GT and they give it to the partner-channel DSF.
Like I see on the TV Guide from the FIA-GT there isn't a channel that have the rights for the live coverage in UK. Now Motors TV bought the rights for UK. But they can't buy the german rights because they are alredy selled to Premiere.
Maybe because the bikes have more viewers or bring in more money than the FIA GT or LeMans Series.
And even though Audi participated in this seasons LMS, the series still is not as exciting as its American counterpart. I do not know why, maybe it is the lenght of the race.
Although I enjoy the 12 hours of Sebring, a full live coverage of the 24h race at LeMans or 10 hours of Petit LeMans. But those are just three races. One at the beginnig of the season, one in the middle and one close to its end.
The six races of the LMS are all within 6 months; meaning every month you hang out one full afternoon in front of the tube. And six hours is a long time, especially if one is in a relationship. ;-)
