The first racing game that I remember driving was "Revs" By Geoff Hammond on a BBC Micro, a fantastic game for it's time

Pole Position on the Atari 2600 for me.
Then upgraded to the commodore 64 and the legend that was Codemaster's Grand Prix Simulator.

my first driving game wasn't mine at all. It was the first ridge racer on the playstation.
The first one I bought was probably gran turismo or f1 '97, still some of best changable weather.

it really is, i found it did strange things. I did a season as mika hakkinen and then any races at spa in particular, he come flying past, from about 15th on the grid, he'd lead the first lap and never be seen again.
The car broke regularly but it was always the same failure, I'd usually have about 70 or 80 points, all wins and a lot of failures
and the rain was just brilliant

i remember borrowing it off a mate... it was such a great game - loved to race full length races with changeable weather and failures, it was great fun. much better than the craptastic F1 98
First racing game i probably played would have been ToCA Touring Car Championship for the PS1

F197 was great in it's day, agreed!
The first TOCA was sooooo cool as well. First game with all the real life english tracks plus a real life championship, I was in heaven.
I still remember that one wheel on the grass was VERY difficult to save, especially on the fast bits at Thruxton! Even got a sprint race and a pit stop race if I recall correctly.

the original toca was good and awful. It was so difficult to drive at the time. It took me agees to get past silverstone, (round 2) and i never got past croft. I would what it'd be like now...

Completed it on hard Dave, you had to set the car up for the hard level otherwise you couldn't keep up! Was very challenging rather than awful.
