I see from the TV listings that the nightly programmes are now only 30 minutes in length. Are Motors TV reverting to the standard North One feed with Paul King doing the commentary or will the emphasis still be on in-car footage and commentary from Simon?

This was reported on autosport.com on Sat 7th:

Quote:
Negotiations for Qatar to invest in the World Rally Championship have broken down, leaving Eurosport set to step in and take over the television and promotion of the series.

While no official announcements have been made, AUTOSPORT has seen internal correspondence from WRC promoter North One Sport confirming that the potential deal with Qatar is off. The Qatar deal, which was reckoned to have been worth millions of pounds over the coming years, was North One Sport's only hope of continuing as the promoter. The firm's parent company, Convers Sports Initiatives, went into administration at the end of last year.

The loss of the potential investor will cost around 40 full-time jobs and a further 20 on-event freelance staff in the world championship. North One Sport is expected to be closed as of Monday.

It is rumoured the FIA terminated North One Sport's contract as WRC rights-holder last night.

A North One source said: "It's unbelievable. We have come so close to landing this. The deal was on the table and, believe me, it would have been by far and away the best thing for the sport and for the World Rally Championship.

"What is desperately disappointing, after working so hard for 11 years on the WRC, is that nobody from the FIA picked up a phone and talked to us - and goodness knows we tried to call them. We were treated with complete contempt. I find it extraordinary given what the new investor could have done. It's a very sad day."

The FIA was unavailable for comment when contacted by AUTOSPORT last night.

This is a really sad state of affairs for us and the sport in general and I notice that the programming schedule times are not being adhered to, I tried to record them to my Sky+ box but the program apparently "finished recording" before the end of the broadcast so I didnt get the end of the transmission! [redcard]

THanks a BUNCH Motors TV - Yet again!! [010]

We did stick to our schedule at the minute !

Late changes in the production meant that times could not be updated in Sky's EPG, but our website and grids were showing the real times.

Well thanks for your kind concern Frederic but, as you say if the EPG was not updated, and I was not aware by scanning your website (which I have ONLY just found!!) how are people like me supposed to capture the PRECIOUS few minutes you allocate our sport each month?! (which are FREQUENTLY cut into by other programmes over-running etc - we seem to be the "poor cousins" that NOBODY cares about?) [???]

And WHY has the coverage been cut back to a lousy 30 minutes - 10 of those being a rotten "catch up" of previous days' action and irrelevant trivia - leaving barely 20 minutes of new action each day???! [baddial]

North One Sports who produced the WRC is dead. And Eurosport jumped in 10 days before the Monte Rally. There was no possibility to produce longer highlights. At the moment there is not even a final deal for the rest of the season.

Nothing Motors TV could have done about this.

However the constant uncorrectness of the EPG is kind of hard to understand. I am not talking about the late changes for the WRC. I always record 20 minutes before and after the scheduled times as it can easily be that the shows start 10-15 ahead oder run longer. For live program this is clear but not for taped program. This is for the Europe feed. I don't know about the french and UK schedule.

well i will chuck my two pennies worth in to the ring.....

i couldnt wait for the start of the wrc 2012 season to start so sky plussed them and sat in the house with a case of beer thoroughly dissapointed on sunday night .....

why? the commentry was poor and each show was filled with the previous days highlights for about 20 minutes, there was a bit of swearing and grumbling from me but......

having known about the demise of north one im actually thankfull for eurosport putting together or at least cobbling together a show i could watch that was full of repeats it meant i could atleast follow the first race of the season.

i will give eurosport the benefit of the doubt and hope that future events will have better coverage and that the poor show was down to them being thrown into the deep end at short notice and although julian porter's commentry was mediocre i will give him the benefit of the doubt and hope it improves within the next few races when hopefully eurosport find their feet !!
