The inaugural Singapore grand prix will indeed be the first ever formula one race to be staged at night.

The specialist magazine Auto Motor und Sport said on Monday that, to spice up the racing and strategy options, a more assorted selection of tyre compounds could be offered by Bridgestone at each grand prix.

Currently, the two compounds made available to teams at races are fairly similar -- for instance, this weekend in Hungary, each driver must use both the 'soft' and the white-branded 'super soft' during the Hungarian grand prix.

But some team bosses are reportedly arguing that varying the tyre options available - for example, the 'super soft' and the 'medium' in Hungary - would lead to a more mixed jumble of pace and a higher prospect of in-race passing.

Auto Motor und Sport claims that the smaller teams are championing the idea, but that their more competitive rivals are not overly keen.

Bridgestone is also thought to be resisting, as implementing the proposal properly for 2008 would probably involve tweaking its existing range of tyre compounds at some cost.

The way i see it.....

With Singapore being a night race (it'll probably be more dusk than night) so temps will be low-er than normal.. Soft,Soft,Softer than soft tyres needed [lol]

if i read this propasol right, they want a wider gap between the two tyres, it won't work because all they'd do is about 5 laps and change them back to the faster ones again.

If it is DARK, there will be no way of controlling what is going on..

I'd put money on it being in the dusk.. So FA & FM can have a cuddle in the moonlight if they tangle again [lol]

Put the sportscars there, at least you won't hear the drivers complaining "I couldn't see the apex it was dark"

With the tyres put a minimum limit on the distance each set has to last, say 15 - 20% of race distance
