: Ogier has been penalised 8:50 for leaving early. Hirvonen has been given 15 minutes of penalty time. The rally coould well and truly be over. There needs to be some serious thought about changing the regulations!

no more no less the rally is over, ok slowing down the cars in previous day is tolerable but changing

starting order like this well NO COMMENTS !!!!! :(

Hi Guys,

Well its the third rally that Motors TV have done and its not getting any better.

Simon doesnt bring any excitment to the rally. I'm watching the days and I have no clear idea who is winning or by what time. The footage is all disconnected and  there is too many onboards.

Have Motors TV taken the comments from WRC Mexico thread onboard?

If I hear sit back and enjoy XYZ anymore I will cry.

Oh god its getting worse.

THe drivers voice is out of sync with the picture so you hear Jari's voice then 1 second later see his lips moving - Rookie error

Another massive rookie error in the editing is showing the following external camera from Petters car

Jesus this is a truly shocking program

I can not believe how bad this coverage is.  I was impressed that some of the people involved were responding and promising improvements.  But after watching Jordan, which was only possible by taking multiple breaks to alleviate boredom, it seems clear improvements are not fortwith.

OK so for whatever reason you are stuck with in car footage.  That doesn't mean you can't narrate with other interesting info pertaining to the rally or comparing the driving to other drivers or just provide general rally info.  Instead it's banal repetitive crap as if there is only one fact to repeat ad nauseum over and over about each driver.  Then when there is an actual interesting moment during the many minutes of boring in car footage the narrator is too busy trudging through his millionth reiteration of some obvious point and not even commenting about the interesting moment.

I don't know what the hell is happening or who is leading.  People shuffle around and lose 30 seconds to the leader and it's not shown how that happens.

Seriously phoning in or Skype or whatever tin can and string is being used for the voice over is terrible.

The twit pic above is hilarious.  I watched that dust covered useless shot with my mouth open.  I couldn't believe they left that in.  The narrator doesn't even try to make light of the situation either just ignores it as though it is compelling imagery.  Total utter crap.

Here in the states a new overlay 2wd series called Max attack has been created to try and promote 2wd rallying.  A small group of 4-6 guys travel to the events on their dime with whatever gear they can scrounge up and film the event, get in car video from competitors, and put graphics and narration in and edit the video at a hotel room with no corporate support and only the thanks of fans as a reward.

It's a hundred times more compelling than Motors' WRC coverage.  God at the very least can you go put some cheap hd cams on static tripods on the course to get some non crap coverage or use fan videos or something?

World folk give these videos a watch and Motors take note how much can be done with so little. I bet you will:

1. enjoy them

2. without knowing who any of these people are you will know how they are running in the rally and what is at stake

3. see compelling images of speed even from crap spec cars compared to WRC

4. Be povided with timely graphics to consolidate the mental picture of how things are progessing.

5.  Wish these guys had an hour and someone paying them to produce WRC event video.

Couldnt agree more RallyTaco.

I'm a freelance cameraman/editor/director/everything and I can put together a better show on my own.

WRC GB 2009 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9Jk370xfgg

Seb vs Mikko - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPg5d1C1u9g

WRC GB 2008 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dr2-7Nqk_Kw

Guys I'm off to WRC Portugal this year and if MotorsTV want my external footage on the stages then please let me know - I'm more than happy to help.

We don't want WRC to die and at this rate it will!

Yes NL the proof is in the pudding as we both have shown.

It really is amazing that the show is so much longer than the previous coverage but with maybe 1/5 the salient information and 1/10 the interesting visuals of the shorter show.  How the heck is that possible?  In a perverse kind of way it's a stunning acheivement! ;).  Am I crazy to think the longer show should have more info, more interesting video, and more granular coverage of the rally not less?  I think that I am not.

I can appreciate Motors might be backed into a corner but it just doesn't matter in the end.  Either they signed an unworkable deal with North One and have zero budget left over to even put rudimentery polish on the final product, or they are just straight up not capable of doing this or somewhere on the spectrum between the two.  The blame is still on them.

I am not embellishing when I say that If future coverage isn't IMMEDIATELY EXPONENTIALLY better, not just a slight improvement, I will stop watching, and then eventually caring, about WRC and so will a lot of others.

One more thing.  I have seen on some threads things phrased like rally fans are harder to please vis a vis Motors TV coverage.  BS!  This has nothing to do with pleasing hardcore fans this is basic not good television on any level not just motor sport coverage.

Would people say only the hard core fans were dissapointed if tennis coverage were only done with a camera on the raquet and only showing one or two matches with no coverage of the eliminations and poor disjointed narration?

No they would just say it was bad television.

I totally agree with you guys.

I can't believe how bad the coverage is compared to the old coverage on Eurosport or whatever it was.

I mean, if I want to see in-car footage of the stages, I relay on the WRC YouTube channel, and I can get it without all the boring commentary over the top.

What I want to see on the TV coverage is a story of who's where, why and how. There's no continuity at all. You don't know which stage you are watching because sometimes the footage jumps to the next stages without calling it out on the commentary and before you know it, you are watching the 5th stage when you thought you were only on the 2nd.

Quite often the commentator seems to mention "the splits" where the hell are they? They don't show you the splits, you just have to rely on the commentator's secret information that we are apparently not allowed to see.

Geez, Motors TV. Go and watch last year's coverage (or the youtube videos above) to see how it is meant to be done.

PLEASE for the love of God.
