I reckon Audi will quit the ALMS, they won't return next year unless the rules change.

Back to dave's orginal question,

I reckon the R10 might win, because its newer and more developed.

Audi will not leave the ALMS - They have spent a fortune to develop the R10 TDI especially for the US market. It's showcase for Diesel tecnology. To leave racing in the US just as the road car diesel regulations change doesn't make any sense. WInning Le Mans is great but here in Europe they allready sell diesels and everyone knows how good they are - just over 50% of Audis sold are oil burners - much greater % with some models - like the Q7 - about 80% apparently...

The R10 TDI is there to break down the pre-conceptions American performance saloon car drivers have about diesle engined vehicles. Smelly, rattles, smokes, slow.... All things the R10 isn't.

Whilst I am sure it irlks them that Porsche have the upper hand at the moment - (and we all are wondering how Porky get such great fuel mileage) - Porsche versus Audi diesel - is not all bad just having diesel mentioned with Porsche is a good story for the Audi marketeers. Especially as Audi are about to release a Q7 and an A8 with a 5.5 V12 TDi, not the race engine but the same configuration...

That's exactly my view, Audi can't beat the Porsche's, so they should race in Europe, where they beat Peugeot at Le Mans.

It isn't either, or, the ALMS program is run by Audi North America, a European program, which is almost certain for 2008, will be with Joest or a current DTM team.

As for Audi not beating Porsche in the US, they've struggled for sure, but they're only running a developed 2006 car, rather than the 2007 models that raced at Le Mans.
