Well.... I think I definitely have to jump in that thread !

I've been a commentator for years on various french channels, including Eurosport, and I'm now working daily with commentators in 4 different languages...

You always find people that HATE some commentators (I mean their commentary of course), some others who LOVE them... and the vast majority somewhere in between... And that's how it will always be !

Carlton has been working for us since years now, and I do believe he gained quite a knowledge about DTM, that's why he is there.

I don't know how it translates in english, but in France we say something like "tastes and colours can't be discussed", meaning every single person will have its own opinion...and stick to it.

Carlton Kirby has the same natural enthusiasm as a certain legendary commentator. He is one of the best around (with Ben Edwards - who incidentally is also on MotorsTV!)

Calton is absolute quality, sure he gets his words wrong and that, but he's interesting to listen to unlike a certain James Allen.

Might I suggest Carlton will be a Murray Walker type in years to come. Thats part of his charm, and nothing to do with the fact he comes from the centre of Norwich.

We've had this type of thread before, and to be honest, i just can't see the point. Commentary isn't the easiest job in the world, there are some who can do it, and some that can't. Carlton and Mark do a great job on Motors, and they both have my support.

When you've heard as much commentary as I have, you do appreciate commentary as a fine art.

The main thing to remember is that doing commentary isnt just reading a script. You may have lists of information, histories, trivia, plus timing screens, plus a monitor or two. From that lot you've got to make sense of it in your head, plus a director or two in your ear, and then to speak to us lot at home.

I've always fancied a go, but i would probably fall on my a*** first time!!
