Can anyone familiar with the seating at Rockingham recommend the best place to get tix for, and whether you can get high enough up the seating to clear the debris fences and still photograph the track. Dont really want to lug the new toy (me and gf have just bought a 400D) and associated stuff if there's no chance of using it. Thnaks, Nick

Anywhere is good really. High up in turn 1 is good as you can get a good view down the front straight and, if they use it, the chicane provided you get far enough around!
But anywhere in the main Rockingham building is pretty sweet!
If i were you, i'd get some roaming tickets, though dont know whether they'll be doing them or not. Usual SCSA meetings you can sit wherever you like!

Yes you can, except for a tiny little bit into Yentwood and a tiny bit of school straight prior to Brook!
Thats the same no matter which track they use, they will have to use both Yentwood and the school straight so nothing you can do really.
The BTCC webby suggests seating is right from entry to turn 4 to exit of turn 1, which suggests the 2 main grandstands, as well as the rockingham building, will be open, so sit anywhere in there and you can see pretty much everything!

Thinking of sitting up by the chicane at end of straight, looking at the map it looks like a good spot

any news on the layout yet, i've seen the one on the btcc website, but I was expecting them top use the same one that the british gt championship used? That layout worked really well for gt's and would suit btcc imo.

Well, the GT's didnt run the chicane more because F3 didnt want to (understandable!), and they run together a lot of the time. I think it was more as a test though to see if it would work!
But the turn 1 chicane, as bad as it is, is a corner that goes down well with touring cars because there are always incidents there. But having said that, theres always incidents at Deane anyway so theres no need to worry.
Have to say, i'd prefer them on the shorter circuit, GT's were looking at 90second laps give or take so its still not short, so for touring cars they are going to be up towards the 2 minute mark, and possibly over that if they use the full circuit!

they not only missed out the first chichane but they also cut out the last part of the lap. Behind the pits after the tight right hand hairpin they turned left then right and then a long left back onto the start finish line.
It wasn't because of the f3's because they didn't go to rockingham this year.

The whole reason they didnt use the chicane is because of F3's though. Following Katherine Legge's flip there a few years back, they said they would not run the track again until the chicane was removed.
The sports car track was devised and its first test was the british gt, who ususally run with the F3's. The F3 organisers saw that it was a good track despite not using hte chicane, and have now decided to come back to Rockingham. So yes, the new circuit was built for the F3's!
