As the race director said, the track was only dangerous if the drivers straightlined the chicane, as long as they kept 4 wheels within the bounds of the track ie 4 wheels inside the white lines, no damage would of come to any cars.

I was sitting just a little higher than where the video was taken that day, the crowd went silent as the car crashed down, then there was a huge cheer when she staggered out of the car. You could see the shock hit her once safely behind the armco with the marshals.

The point is that racing drivers, by there very nature try and push the car as hard as possible and that inevitably leads to occasional mistakes. The problem with that corner is that the margin for error is incredibly small in an open wheel car. It wouldnt have any effect on a closed wheel car but the speed and the kerb is a nightmare for single seaters.

It may only be an issue if drivers straight line the chicane, but it still shouldnt create a very serious accident if and when that happens!
