More drivers behaving badly [!!!!]
http://www.richardwestbrook.co.uk/news/0009.htm
Westbrook is one of my favourite drivers but my view of the race at Silverstone is somewhat different from his. Anyone else see it :S:

Always got to be careful with reports on driver's websites, just look at the lack of mention of the accident with Vanina on Susie's website after the Norisring race.

Absolutely. Westbrook makes no mention of the fact that his car gave Zampedri's Porsche another beating up on the run down to Copse. On the slowing down lap.

Which might have something to do with why Westbrook was apparently assulted in the pits by Zampedri after the race had finished then.

Well to be fair, making him start at the back was laughable. Talk about bungling.

He then drove a brilliant race to get up to 8th, the only iffy bit being the Zampedri incident. It was, probably Westbrook's fault, he came from a decent distance behind but had Zampedri seen him and/or been aware of the fact that he was only postponing the inevitable, Westbrook wouldnt have touched him. He'd have made the corner no problem at all.

As it was, Zampedri appeared not to see him and turned in, although actually from what i saw it looked more like he had seen him and decided he was going to force him onto the grass.

Westbrook then drove another cracking few laps before the drive thru (which imo was about 50/50 whether he should have got it or not, and some days you'd not see it given) and wound up 18th.

As for the Zampedri stab incident, he should be kicked out of the championship for the year if he's going to go round doing that. There is NO call for violence other than the odd little shove here and there in motorsport!

As far as sarting at the back is concerned there was a warning issued in France not to give mechanics a ride back to the paddock in the car yet Westbrook still does it a week later! As an organiser what sanction would you apply?
For the race Westbrook was on fire as gaining 20 places proves. The way I saw the Zampedri incident was that Westbrook was totally committed to his move and had nothing to lose so when Zampedri asserted his right to what was his corner contact was inevitable. Drive through? Yeah 50/50.
Certainly physical assault on a fellow cometitor is totally unacceptable and I hope Zampedri gets suitably punished. Equally sanction should be taken on Westbrook for deliberately driving into Zampedri on the slowing down lap.

Well its an utterly stupid rule anyway. I wouldnt have made the rule in the first place. Penalties that go into the race, such as starting at the back, should be reserved for actions which have an effect on the car, so things like engine changes, or doing something naughty in a previous event/session.

Giving a mechanic a lift in your car back to the pit area is nothing more than a gesture of goodwill. The cars are checked again so its hardly likely he can hide a NOS bottle under the seat, is it?!

Personally to tow the line people in this thread has made in the Mansell thread. BAN HIM FOR LIFE. You cant have one rule for one and another for another.

it all depends on circumstances, if it was calculated. ie nigel and greg after the race desiced it was a good idea to go to sebs tent??/ motorhome whatever and "making him understand" then they desereve a ban for a very long time.

If however it was a bit of shoving in the paddock then the deserve a talking to and a warning. It depends on what hapeens and how it happens.

I completely agree with Flashgordon, a 2500 euro fine is woefully inadequate. Now that the Stewards have handed out punishment I don't know that this will progress any further :S:

Its true about the circumstances. Bit like murder, theres varying degree's of murder, murder 1 is calculated, planned things and murder 2 is things that come sorta in the heat of the moment.

Its still murder though, at the end of the day, but the punishment is quite different.

Same thing, sortof, applies here, though imo a €2500 fine is woeful!

I just read about this in Autosport magazine.

Zampedri behaved appallingly, how dare he. I watched the race and frankly, this is RACING, Zampedri should just get used to it.

Poor Westbrook, he didn't deserve a burst blood vessel from that twat.

Zampedri should be kicked out of the championship, violence shouldn't be tolerated in Motor Racing.
