Watching at the moment, great coverage.

Just wanted to know what the 3 Green lights are on the side of the Porsche Spider

Cheers

See you at Le Mans 24

Good question, I thought that those indicated which of the drivers is currently in the car, but I'm probably mistaken ;)

As far as I know, they indicate the top 3 positions of the cars in each class

Correct.

Quote:
Following the action with four classes running at four different speeds all on the track at the same time for the two-hour, 45-minute race can become confusing. So, the ALMS has come up with a lighting system on the cars to aid fans. One light is for first, two lights for second and three lights for third in each class. The classes are also designated by red lights for LMP 900, blue for LMP 675, green for GTS and yellow for GT.

I'm gutted these cars won't be at Le Mans this year :(

It really surprised me to hear this during the commentary of the last ALMS round. They're very competetive, and have had ages since their full race debut last season...seems like a strange decision to me.

When better to take on the Audi TDI than in it's first year?
Surely the best way to prepare for winning Le Mans 2007 is to compete in the 2006 race?

Ho-hum. ::)

Well, LeMans is 24 hours, the last ALMS race (which they finished 1 & 2) was just 4 hours. This last race was the first race that I know of where both cars finished, but that still doesn't mean that they are able to run a 24h race.

I think Roger Penske doesn't want to compete unless he's pretty sure that both cars will at least be able to finish the race, so I guess they will run at least one other 24h before next year's LeMans ;)

What do you mean by run at least 1 other 24hr before next year? Do you mean simulation because there is no 24 hour race that the cars are eligable for other than Le Mans. So far as I know next year there will be no factory Porsche RS Spiders, only customers, next sesaon so whether Penske runs Spiders next year is a doubt. This must be a good thing as LMP2 was designed for privateers and P2 for manufacturers. Could this LMP2 factory pull signal the rumoured LMP1 offense with the spider.

Hmm, good point, I haven't been following the endurance racing for so long, I just assumed that some of the other 24h races (Spa, Nurburgring, Dubai) would have LMP2 classes as well.

Anyway, the point is that just because a car can race for 4 hours doesn't mean it can withstand 24h as well ;)

When they decide to run the 24 hours they will do a number of long distance test sessions, with at least one being over 24 hours
