Sean speaks sense, I can understand what he's saying.
I don't understand you, sorry.

BMW are third in the Championship because they have scored results... it is actually completely irrelevant who else is in the mix as long as BMW are doing the job... BMW's success will be due to BMW's testing and commitment, and that of their drivers.
I think that suggesting that it is as a result of Renault or Honda failing is completely underestimating the amount of work involved in creating a competitive F1 car... if BMW's car wasn't competitive it wouldn't be there to take the place from the Honda or the Renault... not that we're likely to see a Renault or Honda fighting with a BMW anytime soon...

Hmm, I agree.
It's down to BMW's sheer hard work. Money isn't really the reason either, Toyota anyone?
If Honda and Renault compete, it's their fault.

*Cough*
I think you are all forgetting something which cannot be scientifically proved but exists.
No doubt a lot of hard work has gone into success but luck plays its part.

Yes, your quite right, luck does play a part.
I know why Honda are so dire, the technical director Shuhei Nakamoto is a motorcycle engineer.
So what does he know about the aerodynamics of a car? Absolutely nothing.
Motorbikes don't have much downforce, so why is he responsible for Honda's aero, if he has no experience of racing cars?
It is because he's Japanese?

What you say is true, but I tend to like the thinking behind that decision.
As I see it there are 2 ways to make progress.
1. Copy what the others are doing and do it better.
2. Throw the book out of the window and try a set of fresh ideas.
In this case it obviously hasn't worked but it was a brave decision.
If people hadn't been willing to try it in the past they'd all still be racing Bugatti Type 35's (with fat tyres and wings).
I exagerate, but I'm trying to make a point.

I think Honda need to combine option 1 and 2 to make real progress.
Also, they need to update the car more often with new pieces. That's always been a Honda problem.
They'll have a good car, but won't improve it during the season.
That's why Ferrari and Mclaren are so compeitive, and Renault last year. They consistently adding new parts to the car, where's Honda don't.

Honda actually does improve their car, but because they have the wrong people on the important positions, those changes don't have any real effect.
It's pretty obvious that this year can't be taken into account, because their 1:1 windtunnel was wrongly calibrated. But they have been updating their car throughout the seasons, albeit not as strongly as teams like Ferrari and McLaren. BMW suffers the same problem...when they take one step forward, Ferrari and McLaren take two steps forward. So they're making progress, but simply not enough compared to their "rivals".
Is that understandable enough for you, sav ¿ Or do you want me to draw it out in pictures... ¿

I would like that a lot.
I think BMW are gonna challenge Ferrari at Monza. The low downforce packege really suits the BMW. As we saw in Canada.

I dunno, the Ferrari's didn't look that strong in the testsessions, but I'm guessing that they've mainly worked on setup and race strategies or something, where other teams were mainly working on quali setups.
We'll see who made the better choice when the GP weekend kicks off....

Judging from the recent test, I think Mclaren are leading the way. Then BMW, then Ferrari.
