Yes, Audi has finally told the world that it has a NEW LMP1 CAR.It's going to be open top and a lighter more efficient TDI engine.

It's going to debut at sebring and the car is only going to be showed to the public before the race.

2009 Endurance racing is going to be a cracker of a season with Peugeot v Audi in the LMS ,Audi v Acura in the ALMS and Le Mans Audi v Peugeot and maybe Acura.

They are ONLY Racing at Sebring and Le Mans with the AUDI R15.

They are not racing the AUDI R10 next year.

But, they are racing the AUDI R8 LMS GT3 in the German and FIA GT3 Championships with there DTM teams next year.

That may not be necessarily true Nightst@lker. The factory Joest team may not be running in the LMS series but I read this on crash.net a few days ago purely by accident.

Le Mans » Kolles to run privateer R10s.

Colin Kolles to purchase brace of Audi R10s for the 2009 season.

Comment on this Story

Audi has revealed that the successful R10 TDi is set to race on into the 2009 season, with the team run by former Force India F1 team boss Colin Kolles planning to purchase two cars for the year ahead.

It would mark the first privateer programme for the successful diesel-powered machine, with plans afoot to run the machines in the Le Mans Series and in the Le Mans 24 Hours, where it would go up against Audi's new machine; the R15.

Kolles already has a long relationship with Audi having run two A4 models in the DTM since 2006 under the Futurecom TME banner, and that partnership will now be expanded with the R10 deal, with Audi Sport providing a service package using its technical staff which will support the plans.

"We welcome the fact that Dr Kolles decided to take on this commitment and wants to purchase two Audi R10 TDI cars," head of Audi motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich said. "While on the factory side of the house we are concentrating on the development and fielding of the new R15 TDi sportscar as well as on the DTM, we are pleased to see that the R10 TDi will be privately entered in future and that racing vehicles of the Audi brand will continue to be represented in the Le Mans Series. That is why we agreed to the sale of the cars.

"However, our involvement will be strictly limited to providing support under the terms of the service agreement."

During its racing years with the factory team, the R10 was unbeaten at Le Mans and also lifted the Le Mans Series and American Le Mans Series titles.

Source crash.net.

Sounds like it is a very important boost to the LMS series and the Le Man series. But it does leave me asking several questions.

  1. Who are going to be the drivers for the car the Kolles team when they get the R10s, because obviously Audi may choose to keep messers Premat/Rockfeller/Luhr for the 3rd Audi car, as well having Kristensen/Capello/McNish in the No1 Audi,  Possible names Oliver Jarvis?, Christijan Albers who drove the R10 at Laguna Seca?

       2.   With Audi are letting Colin Kolles buying 2 Audi R10s for the LMS series as a privateer    team, surely they might to keep their toe by letting Champion racing who ran their Audi Sport North America team. have the other R10s to compete against Acura in LMP1?
