I've become a massive NASCAR fan recently, but I don't have and don't want a subscription to Setanta...
I know that the Nextel cup coverage is changing in the US next year- but I was wondering what the implications of this would be in the UK???
Please say Motors TV get the rights (like the Busch series) even if it isn't live...at the moment I have to cope with 1 hour highlight shows at 1:00am on Channel 5!
Does anyone know where it will be shown next year???

i just had an email back from nasn, which broached on this subject...
Quote: We very much appreciate your comments regarding the NASCAR coverage. NASN will not start negotiations with NASCAR regarding next years coverage until this season has ended this coming weekend and we do not expect to make an announcement regarding NASCAR coverage until January, as the next season does not start until February, however, we work very hard to please our subscribers and and your comments have been forwarded to our programming and selection team who are currently working on a solution as to how to broadcast the races in full, in the event of an overrun situation.

I think i might message them as well, just so it looks like people want it

Lets not forget that Setanta is trying to offload NASN, and it has been reported that ESPN are looking to buy NASN themselves. ESPN of course have the world rights for NASCAR.

Very good news for me! I ´am a hockey fan. If ESPN buy NASN the result could be more NHL hockey games for me.
In england NASN is able to broadcast NASCAR.
Visit www.nasn.com, choose your country (i think UK?) and then you can see a NASCAR logo on top of the site.
I hope good news for you, too?
(sorry for bad english)
greetings David

NASN was finally sold on Tuesday for around $58 million to Disney under its ESPN banner. NASN claim they have 6 million subscribers across Europe and were previously owned by Setanta and venture capitalists Benchmark. NASN will be rebranded.
The full NASN press release can be read here http://www.nasn.com/content/nasn/portal ... spnrelease but NOWHERE can the word NASCAR be seen mentioned once. What now I wonder? Now how does a cancelled sub to Setanta begin........

interesting, eh?
i think we will see nascar on espn/nasn next year - let's not forget that espn-i own the international distribution rights so espn-uk could potentially get the broadcast rights for "free". i don't think the non-mention of nascar in the press release has any bearing, since nasn don't have broadcast rights for nfl (certainly not in the uk) and that was mentioned.
i'll give it until the end of jan before i cancel (although at the moment for me it's £14/month for nothing!), hopefully we'll have some good news by then...

I emailed NASN trying to fish for some info and got this corporate waffle back.
Thank you for contacting NASN - the only TV channel dedicated to North American sports in Europe.
In response to the recent announcement about ESPN acquiring NASN, we can confirm that ESPN, the US sports network has purchased NASN. The sale will be completed early in the new year and NASN is pleased to be joining the ESPN family. NASN will still remain part of the Setanta Sports Package.
There is currently no further information available and no further questions can be answered in relation to this announcement at this time. All future updates regarding our programming will be announced via our website, Please continue to visit www.nasn.com for all the latest news, updates and announcements which are released on our website in the first instance, as soon as they are available.

single most important bit of info for a while, there...

so it's unlikely that cost will change, the only question to be answered now is whether or not we have any nascar coverage in 2007. (more questions if/when they announce a positive)

Yes so Brendan. But as this takeover does not happen until 2007, we can but hope they meant that they are part of Setanta for NOW, and might change come ESPN. It would seem odd that with ESPN having a channel of their own they would leave NASN with the Oirish, also given that ESPN appear to have the rights to a shed load of US (motor)sports. Could find no info at ESPN or ESPNi.

The problem we, as subscribers have is that we are kinda at a loss whatever happens.
Sit round, still paying £14 a month for a channel we dont watch, to find in february that they are not showing NASCAR and have spent 30 odd quid on nothing at all, or cancel the subscription now and, come february have to resubscribe when they get nextel cup coverage and thus having to repay the connection fee.
Im sure companies do this on purpose. Infact im sure NASN know exactly whats happening next year, or at the very least have a good idea. But the talk of providing announcements in february (as if they havnt got a clue whats happening) is, imo, a scam to customers really!

Have to say I agree totally with you Steve. Running my own business, I do not make decisions on fundamentals today for tomorrow. I make them ages ahead. Truth be known NASN will not even be here come February, as ESPN has said it will be rebranded. Your comment about 'connection fee' is interesting as I signed up before NASN was actually up and running and did not have to pay any such thing....although the monthly fee Dec/Jan for nowt could be seen to be just that
