Great - I went to Talladega in April and will be in Charlotte for the Chase race in two weeks time. Business travelling to the USA does have some benefits!

i'll be at talladega this weekend - flying over on friday, camping on the infield then flying back on monday. hopefully i can meet some more drivers on the boulevard this year!!
it'll be mad but i need my fix of live nascar!!
i've been wanting to go to the 50th daytona 500 for a couple of years now, but it looks like i won't be able to make it. still, 'dega has to be the next best thing

I'd like to go to the March Bristol race, never been to see one live before. Not sure I'll be able to though, just depends how some stuff works out.

I would like to go to Dega, as it is the best track. Does it cost a lot to camp in the infield? and do you fligh into Birmingham or Atlanta?

Don't know about the infield but I had a turn 4 grandstand seat, high up, in April and it was something like $100. If you don't mind a two hour drive, fly into and stay in Atlanta - more choice, lower prices, and really easy to park when you get to the speedway.
I found Talladega a more enjoyable experience than Daytona mostly because you can see more. Wherever you sit, Dega is an awesome experience.

camping on the infield starts at about $255 for two days (i.e. you go in friday night), about $300 if you go in thursday night. costs a bit more to take a motorhome (RV) in - from about $400. all infield camping passes come with two 2- or 3-day infield tickets. if you want to watch from the grandstands you have to buy grandstand tickets extra.
however, when you're this close to the action (i took this pic last year - exposure is over the top but you get the idea), it's not necessary. staying on the infield also has advantages over grandstand seats; better atmosphere, you don't have to drive after the race (so no queues etc.), you can get a drink or something to eat when you like, at supermarket prices (assuming you take your food in with you). anyway, the pic...
oh, not to mention meeting some drivers...
we fly into atlanta, from gatwick with british airways. depending how lucky you are, flights can be really cheap - we paid £183 return including taxes last year, this time they're £283. shouldn't have to pay more than £300 at the times of year the talladega races are run. our trip this weekend will come to around £800 all in for 2 of us, including airport parking, lounge access, flights, car rental (a chevy monte carlo no less! ), camping & race tickets. we're taking the tent but had an rv last year, which cost about £100/day. well worth it for the convenience though.
do it, you know it makes sense!!
cheers,
bren (soon to be in 'dega! shake 'n' bake!!)

well, finally able to log in after a windows re-install (cookies messed up i reckon).
anyway, camera was a fuji s7000. like i said, the pics came out over-exposed although otherwise not too bad.
i was there last weekend and had a front-row view of the big one - when labonte started getting loose it was as if it all happened in slow motion, and kyle busch got hit right in front of where i was watching (atop a motorhome). got some more pics, but yet to upload to my webspace.
didn't get to meet many drivers this time, due to arriving at the track at about 9.30pm. did meet mike wallace though, and he remembered me from last year - how cool is that? (well, he said he sorta remembered me and i was a bit "wobbly" from drink). also met another high-ranking figure but i'll leave that until i do the pics. a good weekend in all, though.
imperial assassin, i say go for it in '09 - either of the talladega races would be ideal for a first infield camping trip i reckon (a bit warmer in april than october, although it was mid-80s on sunday)
been invited back for the spring race, to a bachelor party. giving it some serious consideration...

Nice photo with Mike Helton. Did you talk to him much, and what about?
