MOTORS TV AT PETIT LE MANS

Formula 1 may have been bragging about its first night race in Singapore, but sportscar racing has been doing it for almost 90 years, and this Saturday's Petit Le Mans follows the great tradition of racing into dark.

Motors TV will be covering the full 10 hours of the 10th round of the American Le Mans Series, starting in the UK at 16.00h Saturday unbroken through to 02.30h Sunday.

Mark Cole and Carlton Kirby will be your UK anchors, joined by Chris Parsons for the middle five hours when Speed gives its own commentators a break, as Audi and Peugeot go head-to-head for the second time in the US, with the P2 Porsches and Acuras cars snapping at their heels. This is the penultimate enduro of the ALMS season, with just Laguna Seca to follow, again on Motors TV on Sunday October 19.

Join us live this Saturday, and we'll keep this Forum bubbling through into the small hours.

MARK COLE

Good to hear that it's full coverage. Hopefully I'll be around (will depend on work) but I'm already depressed as Stefan Johansson won't be driving!

Edit - He's been added to the driver list for the Corsa Zytek!

Mark, I was listening to Midweek Motorsport and John said that he would be providing the words for MotorsTV while you say that you will be doing it yourself. What's the story on that?

MOTORS TV WITH RADIO LE MANS

Things have changed overnight - because Speed is now broadcasting much of the race delayed, it is not possible for the UK-based team to be live, so John Hindhaugh and Radio Le Mans have kindly stepped in to provide our trackside commentary.

It won't affect your enjoyment of the race, as Motors TV will be broadcasting the race live for the full 10 hours, but you won't be hearing Carlton, Chris or myself.

Hopefully we can persuade John to visit this forum from time to time to pick up your posts.

Great, reminds me of 2004, when ALMS was always broadcast with Radio Le Mans audio. So will RLM do the full 10 hours or just the hours that SPEED is away?

Actually ALMS just sent out a press release about Motors TV -

The American Le Mans Series announced today that it has extended its international television contract with MotorsTV, ensuring that the Series maintains a premium position on Europe's leading motorsports network.

The agreement sees American Le Mans Series coverage on MotorsTV for a further two seasons.

"Our extension with MotorsTV represents continued growth of the American Le Mans Series," said Scott Atherton, President & CEO of the American Le Mans Series. "It continues to give us truly world-class television coverage throughout Europe, which is extremely important to a number of our manufacturers and marketing partners. Given the sheer number of viewers we are able to reach through our alliance with MotorsTV, the extension ensures that the Series will continue to be at the forefront of premium motorsport coverage across the Atlantic.

"The American Le Mans Series represents the best professional sports car racing in the world, and with that comes global demand," Atherton added. "Partnerships with world-class outlets like MotorsTV help us serve the rapidly growing interest in our Series."

The large majority of Series events "live" to its audience of more than 45 million viewers in 31 European countries and in four languages (English, French, German, Greek). In addition, MotorsTV is continuing a year-long, 60-minute weekly Endurance Racing magazine program that began and was a success in 2008 with American Le Mans Series coverage as the premier component .

"The 2008 season marks the fifth year of our partnership with the American Le Mans Series, and it's definitely been one of the highlights of the channel," said Frédéric Viger, Head of Programming & Acquisitions for MotorsTV. "The Series keeps growing in entries and interest, and will certainly gain even more next year with Acura entering the LMP1 class."

"We are confident the American Le Mans Series will remain must-see programming for our audience of 45 million homes in 31 countries via our Pan-European satellite service," Viger said. "While it's a bit early to give final indications, we're also working closely with the American Le Mans Series in order to improve the quality of the coverage over the next two years, and are hopeful that it will help the series to gain even more well-deserved awareness onto the Old Continent."

MotorsTV has stepped up support of its American Le Mans Series involvement by involving talent teams on site at various Series events and in terms of developing feature as well as promotional materials. The American Le Mans Series and MotorsTV are operating under the terms of a multi-year rights agreement signed in 2006

Good job!

As far as improving coverage, how about doing live qualifying coverage. At the moment there's nothing important on, just some reruns, so it could work.

Looking forward to proto qualifying, live on ALMS website.

Less than an hour to go - Can't wait!

This year's edition of the PLM could be a real thriller, I hope Peugeot can finally get their first big win today. They deserve to after the latest dissapointments.

Well Audi are certainly helping Peugeot today, McNish went off in the car deranging the front before he even got it to the starting grid!

Lol, not something you'd think McNish would do.

The Audi will start from the back so all that hard fight in qualifying for nothing.
