God have people gone Lewis Hamilton crazy on e-bay just looked for some signed stuff, theres 2 caps of his on there one for £157.00 and another for £120.00.
People must be mad to pay that sort of money.

I think of ebay as "supply and demand"...
Personally, if I didn't get an autograph personally I'd feel it was devalued, the autograph itself being but a token to capture the memory of a special day, but some don't think like that and are willing to pay for "somebody else"'s autograph... Who knows why, but they do...

Nice sentiment
The people buying this stuff will describe themselves as "collectors", whereas they are in fact "investors". Is it any wonder that the drivers lock themselves away in the paddock, unavailable to autograph hunters, when they see that people are taking financial gain out of what should be a special personal memory of meeting the man himself.

So true... nothing more to add about it. In America for example the 'autograph' market is insane with Celebrities, to bad we see this same stuff come over to Europe these days. It's just insane to pay that much for an autograph...

it dosen't really mean anything either, it's not like it's even real. It's just a sribble they made up because signing their full name has become a chore

This is a major problem that the true fans of motor sport have... I do collect autographs and have not done to badly. But it is getting harder to gain them. I send off photos to get signed and always ask for a personalised autograph. It makes it more personal to me and gives the driver an idea that this will not be sold. (Well mayber for the retirement funds, but thats a long way off)
I am trying to gain Hamiltons autograph for a great photo i have of him and Sir Stirling Moss, Moss has left the message:- "Tommorows Champion, Ciao" How right could he end up this year?
