Do we have any kart drivers on here at all?
What are your favourite tracks?
How long have you been karting?

Please define a proper kart.
Ok, ally chassis with no suspension, a direct steering rack and engine powering rear wheels through a main shaft, good brakes and tyres.
250 National has all those oh and a gearbox and proper clothing.
I just think short karting is way way too expensive and not really that relative when you can race cars at such a young age nowadays.
When you see teams in teh paddock with tens of differnt engines, frames etc its just gone mad.

Ive driven a two-stroke kart, that is, ive driven a Club 100 kart which is maybe 2 seconds off a proper race prepped tkm around most tracks.
Still, they feel roughly the same, just slower!
And i love Whilton. Warden Law was quite good (bit long though) and Clay Pigeon is absolutely superb!

in all fairness every kart is a good kart. even a single engine 4stroke is fun if you have never sampled anything else. for me 2strokes are good closely followed by rotax snr or similar. thats my oppinion anyway. fast enough to give you a decent buzz and close(ish)racing.

True, but when you've driven a 2 stroke, 4 strokes are little wimpy things. They can still be fun, dont get me wrong (do a nice, flat out, 4 wheel drift through turn 1 at birmingham wheels using the hollow in the middle of the corner to turn the kart and tell me thats not fun!), but i'd much prefer to spend money ona 2 stroke kart.
I have been thinking recently of getting a kart, a friend of mine is selling his for around £750, dont plan to really race it just yet, but get out testing and stuff, learn a bit more about them as my 2 stroke experience is limited to 5 30 minute races, 5 stints in 60 minute enduro races, 4 test days and a select few other bits.
Mind you, we were at Bayford Meadows a few weeks ago with the BUKC (google it!) and i felt about the fastest i'd ever done on those club 100 karts, throwing it around a lot more than before. Still, my fastest lap (and im pretty sure i know which one it was) of the day didnt feel particularly good, made at least 2 mistakes that i remember and wasnt fully brave into turn 1 so could maybe go a decent amount faster!

Prices vary (indoor/outdoor, number of people). When i went to whitton mill it was a coledge outing. Ayslbury was a mates birthday. I went to mk when i was about 9 or 10, just paid for track time, got 20 mins.
Just find a track local to you, ring them up for look at a site and see what offers they do or if you can just book time for yourself or bring some mates for a race.......maybe us lot should get together
