Man killed in rally car accident

A 53-year-old man has died after being hit by a car which was taking part in the Granite City rally in Aberdeenshire, Grampian Police said.

The man, who had been a participant in the rally, was standing at the side of the road when he was hit by another vehicle and killed.

The crash happened at about 1215 BST on Saturday in the Clashindarroch Forest, near Mytice, Rhynie.

Police investigators were at the scene. The rally was suspended.

The Granite City Rally grew from a small event to become a fully fledged forest rally in 1968.

It is now one of the UK's best known events attracting many leading drivers and teams.
