I really want to travel somewhere different to watch DTM live, I was lucky enough to go to Brands Hatch this year and had absolutely brilliant day but would love to go further afield to watch DTM at different tracks, I wonder if anyone can tell me:

What sort of price are the tickets?
Are there like deals you can purchase to include the whole package? i.e travel, tickets etc
And do you also need a ticket to watch practice?

Unfortunately Ive only ever seen DTM from my front room (until Brands Hatch) so dont have any experience in travelling, and am not sure what sort of deals I can get...

On dtm.com you can get informations about dtm travel. its a package with tickets, hotel, etc. . I haven't use it so far, but i think it isn't bad.

I was doing some calculations for travel to the Nurburgring round this year, and if you use some of the price comparison websites and the likes of expedia and lastminute you can certainly get some great deals.

I was quoted £37.98 for a return flight from Gatwick to Cologne-Bonn, departing on the Thursday before and returning on the Monday. I got a quote of £77.33 for 4 days car hire as well. I was quoted £37.00 a night for a hotel in Cologne, an hour's drive from the circuit, as well, although I suspect you could get cheaper if you shop around. This totalled about £250 for a 4 day trip, which wasn't too bad imo.

I recommend the travel supermarket website for anyone planning a trip abroad.

That doesn't sound too bad actually.

It's fair value for money and you get to travel. :)

Im told that Zandvoort is about the best place to see it live.

The advantage is that ferry's from Dover to Calais, or via Hull to Zeebrugge, arnt a million miles away, so you'd only have a 2 or 3 hour drive once you get across the water.

But Zandvoort, being a holiday resort, has loads of hotels and the track is top notch. That'd be my suggestion!

Yep, I have to agree with you, it appears that Holland is a second home for british motorsport fans, just look at the amount of brits at Assen for the WSB and MotoGP.

Unfortunately for you Zandvoort is this weekend, which doesnt give you much time to sort things....
I went to Zandvoort for the Dutch GP back in 1985, went with Page & Moy and stayed in Amsterdam, was only about an hour from the track if my memory recalls correctly from 22 years ago. It was great track then, and although its changed a bit i bet its still a great track to go to.
You could always see about Barcelona on 23rd Sept, might also be the best way to see the sun this 'summer' as well.

Zandvoort in the late 80's was superb before they hacked the track in half. The views from the dunes of Hulenholtz to Hunzerug allowed you to look down into the cars. I haven't been back yet, but I would like to go soon, maybe next year.

I may well of been on that same trip, I stayed in the Grand Krasnapolsky Hotel off of Dam Square. I did a 2 GP trip which combined the Austrian & Dutch GP's.

The Hotel name rings a bell, although its was only a trip to Dutch GP for me, it was my first time abroad as well.
First time in a foreign city at the age of 20 and it was Amsterdam

Hi Jemma,

my good lady and myself go to all the races on the calander so if you need any help we can tell you more.

for a weekend ticket to Zandvoort it was 51 euros that included our paddock tickets and that gave us entry on fri sat and sun in a gold stand with a reserved seat but pot luck which number you sit at, then you have the cost of travel and hotel but all depending on how early all the bookings are made. If you email jackiexxd@hotmail.com or me at nick.dawkins@kier.co.uk and i am sure we can let you know more and help in some way. So where in surrey are you as i travel up from the exeter direction to the cambridge area then down to stansted or folkstone.

a week-end goes something like this, alot of travel either by car or wait and fly, up with the sparrows for breakfast then off to the race track buy our tickets, raise the flags and go on a walk abouts see the cars meet the stars get any shopping pick up any free bees watch all the DTM and any support races and then head off for either shopping / sun / sight seeing get fed and watered with after-noon tea and cakes, go back shower shave get our evening togs on and off out for our evening meal, saturday is more the same and sunday is a full day at the track followed by the packing checking out say our good-byes and then the journey home on monday. Total cost depending on how the costs are shared how many ways its split and how early you get all booked up.

hope that is enough to get you interested for now

regards

Jackie & Nick

Thank you very much Nick for your information on weekends away.. I appreciate it, it certainly has helped a lot!! Im really looking forward to going now, I'll have to decide where to go! I'd like to go to Hockenheim, as that seems to be the 'place to be'!!! But I really did have a great time at Brands Hatch and that was just for a few hours on sunday!!!
I live very near to a town called Dorking, on the A29, 40 minutes from London!!

Hi Jemma,

You have 3 races left to get the feel for it, an after-noon at Brands is nothing to being there all week-end, as one after-noon is costly way of doing things, you need to gear up for the full 5 day package of travelling thursday having the 3 days at the track and travelling home on monday.

your best thing to do is go to spain and have a week there with the rest of the time spent on the beach, Hockenheim is ok but not alot there or in the surrounding area, apart from Spreyer or Karlsruhe.

email Jackie or me and we can let you know more

look out for the flags

best regards

Jackie and Nick
