Autosport.com announced this morning that Geoff Willis has left the Honda F1 team, following the staff reshuffle over the last few days.
I guess something needed to change, if they are going to improve at all...

Sure they need to do something.
Losing Geoff Willis doesn't look like a particularly good move to me. I would say that Geoff's contribution got them to the position where as you say they ought to be winning. People of his calibre are not thick on the ground.
Maybe they could interest Mike Gasgoine, now he's not commuting to Germany everyday, he might find the trip down the road to Brackley a bit more attractive??
I don't know the details, but the engine hasn't looked all that reliable this year, there have been several blow-ups! Can't be good for confidence.
The car just isn't quick enough to get the job done. I bet Button is well chuffed (not) about spending his own dosh to stay with a duff team. He should have gone to Williams who may not be winning much at the moment, but they do know how to win and will do so again. BAR are still (obviously) in the position of thinking they know how to win.
Cheers!

The second technical director to be shown the door this season.. Mike Gasgoyne (spelling??) was similarly shown the door at Toyota...
Who's next.....

A Mr J Button i should think
What must he have been thinking of to pay, i dunno was it 10mill or somthing to stay with Honda
He would have been better to go to Williams this year & maybe have gone to Renault,Ferrari or McLaren next year?
I don't think that he is that good anyway, not compeared to D.C or Mansel, i did'nt think much of Damon Hill either.

He's not actually left yet... just put on gardening leave.... well that's what the BBC say...
I suspect Geoff has been working out his bargining points for a big pay off in exchange for some confidentiality agreement that I guess Honda will make him sign.
Then it's down to the Job Centre to sign on I guess...

It spanks of panic. The same panic that screwed up Jaguar a few years back.

Gardening leave is a way of stopping him going to another team with current knowledge of the Honda setup.
Williams did the same thing with Adrian Newey. He used the time to design the next McLaren that went on to win the next championship.
Putting the guy on gardening leave is in fact reinforcing the view that he has a valuable contribution to make, perhaps more valuable than the guy that's replacing him.

Jenson Button happened. He's one of the most overrated drivers in the paddock, second only to the 2 toyota boys. He doesnt have a race brain anything like MS or to a lesser extent Alonso, cant be relied to push hard all the time (somehow loses a second a lap on pace, blames it on the car (interesting, when nothing was changed) and people believe him!
If anyones going to win at Honda, it'll be barrichello, but i wouldnt expect it this year, apart from maybe brazil!

I think this was a shame, I really rate Geoff Willis, Do we know who he is going to work for yet next season?
