FIA GT Championship comes to Motors TV – LIVE

Motors TV (Sky Channel 413, Virgin Media 545) will screen round 4 of the FIA GT Championship LIVE from Oschersleben on Sunday having agreed a deal to take over the coverage for the rest of the season.

The ‘High Speed Television’ channel already boasts an impressive portfolio of sportscar coverage, including live Le Mans Series and American Le Mans Series action and highlights of the British, French and Belgian GT championships, and now completes the set of the world’s top sportscar series.

Motors TV’s Head of Programming Frédéric Viger said: “We are delighted to have added the FIA GT Championship to our featured live championships. It is the world’s most prestigious GT-racing category and the races so far this year have been very closely fought.

“With four drivers tied at the top of the GT1 standings, and just five points covering the top eight, Sunday’s race at Oschersleben is set to be a fascinating one for our viewers to enjoy.”

The FIA GT Championship features classes for GT1 and GT2 machinery and includes entries from prestigious marques such as Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Corvette, Maserati, Ferrari and Porsche. The series is made up of ten, two-hour races at some of Europe’s finest circuits and in 2008 will conclude with a trip to San Luis in Argentina.

Sunday’s live and uninterrupted coverage begins at 12.00 UK time.

Why is this again only on MotorsTV UK? Why is all the interesting stuff shown on MotorsTV UK and we (MotorsTV International) get just another re-broadcast of a highlight

MotorsTV has so many unique shows and races, but doesnt fulfill its potental by showing it only on MotorsTV UK.

I don't see anywhere that this is UK only Mark, so lets hope it will be on Sunday. FIA GT is one of the few championships I don't follow, mostly because of the lousy broadcasts of DSF. However with Spa coming up I would be very much interested in getting to know who's up front and who to watch for next month.

By the way, back in 2006 MotorsTV already broadcasted highlights of both FIA GT and FIA GT3.

Fred revealed on another forum this is a Motors TV UK only deal.

Check the MotorsTV UK tv guide and the international tv guide.

Instead of FIA GT we get....Motorcross, Truck Racing, Stop&Go and another Superbike highlight.

And we already miss great shows like Race&Rally UK (which has been on MotorsTV International for years!), Formula Palmer Audi and other english championships.

ITV were shocking showed one live race. I be trying to get motors TV still but http://www.gt1live.tv/ will do for now

To give ITV a slice of credit, they showed two races out of three live. However, they didn't seem to be planning to show Oschersleben at all which is rubbish.

It's a bit upsetting to see 'good news' posted and the bad news bears are the first ones to respond about it. Unfortunately, there are already national agreements in place - maybe poor ones in comparison with Motors (but still better than ITV's nothing) in other countries which has probably meant the deal is for the UK only.

But as Frederic himself has posted at Ten-Tenths - 'that is for this year' - that may be a hint that Motors may be able to expand that next year - I'm certain the SRO have had enough running around trying to grab a broadcaster in every country right before the start of every season, and Motors TV is a perfect solution to that problem.

Hi,

I'm glad to see the FIA GT races are to be shown in full, and not highlights, but I'm worried the picture quality will be usual Motors TV, poor.

Aren't they going to use GT2 next year. I rather see Motors investing in a series that is continuing to grow (cough LMS cough) than one that's going through major changes. Anyway, it doesn't really matter as its UK only. Guess I get my one hour coverage of Spa on DSF.

Hi Guys,

I have just read the news on FIA GT homepage and immediately checked TV guide on Motors TV homepage. Unfortunately I am from Germany which caused great frustration straight away. Nothing about FIA GT coverage... !?! - I am a big Endurance Racing and GT fan and signed a contract for Motors TV Deutschland some weeks ago. Why the heck, if Motors TV added the rights for the FIA GT coverage to its featured live championships, is it not shown in other countries than UK as well. I read the Hazard comment above but honestly it doesn't help against my frustration.

DSF coverage, as already mentioned by Pim is more than poor. Adria race coverage last week was about one hour. The race duration is two and half an hour of the coverage was advertisement. Makes finally hal an hour of the race action. I already complained about that once but all I got was an electronic email reply and nothing changed. That's why I've put all my hopes into Motors TV.

Last time I was disappointed was when I noticed that the 24 Hours of Le Mans are not shown on Motors TV. Why is Motors TV called Motors TV if the most important races are not shown. At least not in germany. The ALMS race at Lime Rock next week is covered Live, the week after in Mid-Ohio is just a highlights.

To be honest, I'm wondering if this is worth it and if it's not better to cancel my contract. I am neither interested in Motorcycles nor in Trucks or whatever RC races... But anyway, it is like it is and maybe I'm just disappointed to be so far from the race tracks to see it live On-site. What I will do in August for the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. Maybe next year DSF is out and I will be happy then. Sportscar races will not die tomorrow...

Its not really a surprise GTKaputtnik that Motors can only broadcast it on their UK channel. It happened before with the Champ Car World Series. Or for example DTM isn't on your Motors Germany I think. Frederic obviously dropped a hint on Tenth-Tenths that MotorsTV is likely to have the rights on the original MotorsTV next year.

I would not drop Motors if I was you. Yeah, they had to cancel some series over the last past years but you can't expect them to go up against an Eurosport or NASN. For now we have live coverage of the Le Mans Series. Which is more exciting than ever with Audi and Peugeot battling against each other every race. Its the competition our sports car fans have been waiting on ever since the series started in 2004. Motors is the only channel to broadcast these races live and in full. Eurosport only shows the first 30 minutes and highlights the following week.

Then there's the ALMS you mention. Lime Rock is live and once again its the only channel in the world to broadcast the race live. Even in America its on tape delay. The next race is only highlights but why... Because in America NBC will only broadcast highlights. Earlier this century Motors used to buy the NBC stream and put Radio Le Mans audio on it but apparently thats too expensive these days. All SPEED races should be live and once again a few of them will be tape delayed in America but live here. How awesome is that.

Then there's the highlight shows of all the national championships: Belcar, Intl. GT Open, British GT, Dutch Supercar Challenge. So if you're a sports car fan then this is the place to be.

Right. Actually you're right. I would be even more disappointed if it was the other way around. No coverage of the LMS but full coverage of the FIA GT. The two most important endurance series ALMS and LMS are more than nothing.

I am a sports car fan. And I haven't had these background information that even in the U.S there is not every race shown live. That surprises me and decreases my frustration. And I think it also has to do with exclusive rights. If DSF doesn't allow Motors TV to show it we are the ones that lose. As well as ARD has the exclusive rights for the DTM here in germany which is by the way a great fortune as ARD shows also in full and without advert breaks. What a pity that DSF has the rights for the FIA GT. Maybe that is the only source of my frustration.

I will not drop Motors. I was just a little upset about the mentality of DSF to provide fans their sport. The wide range of GT sportscar coverage of Motors TV as you mentioned is already great and maybe we get the FIA GT next year as a kind of bonus. At least I would be happy. We will see.
