I don't reckon this will happen... 10 years is just too long... F1 is supposed to be a development series and this just makes a mockery of it.
Worst case scenario is that after 2-3 years the Manufacturers will go to the FIA and say "we want this rule changed or we pull out of F1"...

It could very well happen, but i just read the article again and it seems the the FIA have prepared for such an event were to occur, as in the statment it did also mention: A change can be made after five years but only with the unanimous agreement of all stakeholders and following a further two-year notice period.
And im sure after so many years that teams will want to change their engine especially if theirs has been shite for the past five years, i think this will happen for sure.

If the FIA statement meant anything how come Prodrive aren't already confirmed in F1?
If after a year they decide they want engines changed I'm sure they'll simply do it.

True good point, i suppose that the FIA and their great upholding of Rules and what they say, and im sure prodrive would be in a different position.
Oh yea for sure if there is a unanimous agreement then the FIA will have to let go if not, and like you said before if they dont get what they want then "bye bye"

Formula hasn't been the pianacle of motorsport for at least a decade though, technololically it has but it dull and at most you get three teams racing. This year only two for the overall, not even bmw (usually 5 or 6) never came close.
I know there was a three way bettle for the title, it stop it being dull.

What happens if you don't have a 10 year contract with your engine supplier? Are the teams allowed to shop around for a better engine? Are new engine suppliers allowed to join in? (With possibly more up to date bits?)
There's a lot of things we aren't being told by the FIA....

Good point Steve,
I would imagine you are allowed to change your engine supplier, and engine makers are allowed to come in. If you are not, that's is stupid because F1 becomes less attractive to smaller teams. As they rely on getting engines from bigger teams. It's like if Spyker want to terminate their Ferrari engine contract, and go with Renault. They couldn't.
Of course, the car maker based teams don't have to worry about that because they make their own engines.

F1 will become like F3 then, thosse engines are essentially frozen, the only difference is, is in F1 there is more variety.
