Oh dear, the future doesn't look rosy for DTM at all. According to this very accurate report, DTM could be no-more in after next season unless a third car makers joins 2009: http://www.touringcartimes.com/news.php?id=1621

When he says they need more manufactures and new rules then is that the same problem. New rules with smaller cars and costs will bring you more manufactures. But Mr. Tomczyk says a lot when the day is long so you don't must be angry.

I'm not angry, just concerned. As DTM is one of my favourite race series.
The problem is, I know the DTM cars are expensive to produce and develop, but the S2000 cars are rather boring and slow - the DTM would n longer be a premier series.
Maybe something in between, with around 330 hp?

Yes I like the proposed new WTCC rules for 2009 or 10. This is the middle. Most important is that there is a real road car as basic.

Yup there must be new rules for 2009 as well as costs going down so a third manufacturer could join.
This should actually be done starting from 2008. Because if they decide to start going by the new regulations at the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009, that might not be enough time for a new manufacturer to join.

I agree, they should simply move these new rule changes to next year in order for car makers to see how they work, then possible enter in 09.
I think Lexus might join, as they seem to be expanding in Europe with their road cars.

I think it's to late to make new rules for 09. A new manfactur must have one year. So you have to confirm new rules in summer 08 to use then in 2010.

DTM is very attractive for any car maker thinking of entering, it goes accros Europe and last year DTM got higher viewing figures than WTCC - impressive.

what they shouldn't do is change the cars... if they slow them down and make them cheaper it will make it crap, and just a WTCC clone with bugger all cars...
they just need to work on getting some more manufacturers - Alfa, BMW, Lexus, Seat - could try to get any of them, and drag them away from the WTCC

When you want to have new manfactures then you must put down the costs. And the first step are lower developed cars. Why turing cars must be prototypes? Alle other good touring car series have a road car for basic. Why DTM can't do that?

Like I said, I think the DTM prototyes are superb, but unfortunatly because they are costly to build no other car makers are interested in coming to the sport.
I think we need something in between an S2000 car and a current DTM car, road based but with 3.0 V6's producing 330 - 350 hp. And you can use hybrids too and bio-fuel engines too, as many car makers sell road-going versions of both fuels - therefore making the series more attractive.
The cars should be production based, as Fabian says - to cut costs. But they should be superior to S2000 spec cars to remain a premier series.

I think so too, clearly no other manufacturers are interested, because of the format and the high costs. Europe has become very environmentally friendly so DTM needs to understand that, and adapt.
Many make production V6's, or your even allowed 2.5 turbo engines too.
