I cant believe i failed to notice it when the current format has been used in the dtm was first used in 2003, im pretty sure some of you have already but go with me on this.....
- The current DTM car is a silouette much like the Megane Trophy car, take the shell off the front of the car and it looks like an unshelled Group C car, but with the engine in the front.
- Mercedes had a sportscar team in the late 80s, so did Joest who now run the Audis in the DTM.
- The only thing missing from the current DTM pitstops is the driver changeover, which would be silly seeing as they arent exactly doing 1000kms or 24 hours, but they refuel the cars with churns like they used to in Group C.
- In Group C there was a mix of ex-f1 drivers like Stuck, Ickx, Watson, Patrese, Rosberg, Warwick, Brundle, along with up and coming single seater talent: Schumacher, Wedlinger, Nannini (Lancia 84 85).
- In DTM there has been a mix of ex-f1 drivers, Alesi, Hakkinen, Frenzen, Ralf, along with up and coming single seater talent, Albers, Paffett, Di Resta, Jarvis
- Group C used to race annually round the Norisring, the short street track is now host to the DTM.
- There was an array of brightly coloured liveries in Group C, shame the DTM havent got any wild liveries anymore, even the Vomit-Comet of DiResta in 2007 doesnt get a look in.
- on the downside Group C would unfortunately be processional affairs but with experts in strategy like Ross Brawn working for TWR Jaguar, most of the races were won in the pitstops, which is why when Group C ended these experts would end up in F1 in an attempt to kill off the race for everyone else.....unfortunately that has been successful.
