Dear Carlton and Mark

As a long- time DTM fan, I've just about managed to to put up with your constant references to "The Hakk" -- now, having watched the F3 live for the first time, I note you refer to Nico Hulkenberg as "The Hulk".
Give it a rest, it's pathetic

The way Mark and Carlton say that is harder than trying to pronounce his name properly.
[lol]

Precedent doesn't make it right, or enjoyable to listen to.
And, in my opinion, Carlton ranks as one of the worst commentators I have ever heard. Worse even than Murray Walker before he became " a national treasure".

Exactly, it brings a little humour to motor racing, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Try watching a BTCC race with Ben Edwards then you will know bad. Carlton and Mark you want a job on the BTCC? I think even a baby would be better then what we got atm.

Nobody's ever going to please everybody... personally, I find these nicknames rather affectionate and I don't think they harm anybody... not sure if Motors TV offers it, but I remember when I originally had Sky Analogue you could, if you wished, switch to an audio track without commentary at all... if it isn't offered, perhaps that is the key... folks like Thommo can simply watch without any commentary at all... I bet they'd soon switch it back on, regardless of affectionate nicknames or not... :)

I love the nicknames they give the Utes drivers, it makes it more personal

You can't beat the Utes commentary, names like 'Chucky' Baxter, 'Ice' White and 'Schmacko' Griffin. You just can't help laughing. So what if the comms use driver's nicknames, it all adds to the occasion. How many times did people refer to Carl Fogarty as 'Foggy' during his career?
