Its a tough thing to sort out when it seems the FIA isn't sure of its own rules.

Looks as if they will leave it to the Melbourne stewards to sort out if any official complaint, then there will be an appeal yada yada.

Good evening,

The Formula 1 Season is only a few days away, I am actually counting the Hours. Is there not somebody on this Forum, and that includes the adminstration that can be bothered to organize

a preview of the most eventful motor racing event in this year`s Calander. You guys at the adminstration must surley be living on a different planet. With all due respect.

It is of no use to keep posting away material that one can not post a reply to, just to keep your pages full. Come on Guys it`s about time you got your act together.

I hope to hear from you at your earliest.

Best Regards,

chris.Borg

Diffuser row set to drag on

Posted: 26 Mar 2009 08:15 AM PDT

Brawn GP, Williams and Toyota’s diffusers have been given the all-clear by the stewards in Melbourne.

But Ferrari, BMW, Renault and Red Bull are intending to protest the decision. This means a Court of Appeal hearing into the legality of the parts will have to be held, most likely in the week after the Malaysian Grand Prix next weekend.

This would mean that three teams are participating in the next two races not knowing if their cars are legal or not. If their diffusers are subsequently declared illegal drivers could be stripped of wins and points. Hopefully it won’t come to this.

The diffuser dispute first came to light in January, and it’s lamentable the FIA wasn’t able to get its act together and sort out the new rules so the season could begin without yet more needless controversy. Perhaps they could have gotten their act together if they had spent less time bickering with the F1 teams over a points system no-one wants.

Stewards throw out diffuser protests

Australian Grand Prix stewards have rejected the protests against the Williams, Brawn and Toyota teams' diffusers, meaning the three cars are free to participate in this weekend's Melbourne race. But the controversy is set to continue, with the architects of the protest thought likely to appeal the decision.

Diffuser row could have been avoided

Formula One's diffuser controversy could have been avoided if those teams now protesting had embraced proposed rule changes a year ago, according to Ross Brawn.

The Brawn GP owner told reporters at the Malaysian Grand Prix that an attempt to simplify aspects of the 2009 regulations at an FIA technical meeting in March last year had been rejected.

The debate surrounds the rear diffuser, which channels the flow of air out of the back of the car as smoothly as possible for maximum grip and downforce.

Protesting teams argue the use of what is effectively a double-decker diffuser is against the spirit of the regulations.

"If I'm frank, I didn't say 'look, we're going to do this diffuser if you don't accept this rule'. Because I'm not going to tell people what we're doing," said the Briton, whose Mercedes-powered team finished one-two in Australia.

"But I explained that I felt we should have a different set of rules to simplify what needs to be done and I offered them and they were rejected. So my conscience is very clear," added Brawn.

"And those rules that I put on the table would have stopped a lot of things. It would have stopped the diffuser and all those bargeboards around the front, it would have cleaned the cars up."

"Nobody was interested then, they are very interested now."

BMW-Sauber, champions Ferrari, Red Bull and Renault have all protested the legality of the cars used by Brawn, Toyota and Williams in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix and in Malaysia.

Two sets of stewards have rejected the protests and an appeal is scheduled for next week in Paris.

Brawn, who also heads the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) technical working group, said he was not impressed by some of the comments made by other team principals in recent weeks.

"They are uneducated and uninformed," he said. "If they looked at the facts then they'd realise that.

"I've always tried to wear two hats," continued the former Ferrari technical director.

"One is what's good for Formula One, and I wear that hat for a certain period. And then I take that hat off and it's what's good for my team?

"When we get into actually designing a car, you can't go back and say 'I've found this great new feature, I'd better stop it.' It's a different hat you have to wear."

Race To Redevelop Diffusers Underway

Although they will be forced to make "fundamental" changes to the design of the F60, Ferrari have promised to "double their efforts" as they look to catch up with Brawn GP, Toyota and Williams following the FIA International Court of Appeal's decision to declare the trio's controversial "double-decker" diffusers legal..

The International court of appeal has said that the diffuser designs of the Brawn, Toyota and Williams cars are legal.

This means that teams can race the 'double deck' diffuser. Mclaren said in Melbourne that they could race with a 'double deck' diffuser as early as China this weekend.
