I have now found out - for sure - one of the sticking points for the ITV coverage. I had a meal with my contact on Sunday night and apparently at present before 6pm on Sunday they are not allowed to broadcast anything other than kids shows on ITV4. If the Regulator allows that to change then the first 5 events will be shown on ITV4, races 1 & 2 in highlights and race 3 will be live. The shows will start at 4pm so race 3 will be pushed back through the event schedule to accomodate this timeslot.

The second half of the season may be shown on ITV1 - same deal, highlights of races 1&2, then race 3 live.

Great news eh!

Also the full day will be shown live on Setanta Sport and I hear there will be two ITV F1 presenters on duty for the Setanta broadcast- neither of them are James Allen.

One of these will also be the new face of Motorsport UK and the other is contracted by Setanta as a presenter/expert. I bet you can guess - I did!

As ever I'm only passing on what I have been told but there's no reason for the person who told me to be making any of this up....unless you know different.JAS

-----------------------------------------------------
Eh?

Well what's so bad about that, if all races will be shown live on either ITV1 or ITV4 plus live Setanta coverage?! And some new (F1) presenters.

So we go from all races live on ITV1 to all races live split between ITV1/ITV4....no big deal.

Any other non-F1 car racing series (including the WTCC) would absolutley kill for broadcast coverage like that in the UK and we should be very thankful that the BTCC still receives mainstream boradcasting - just look at how much motorsport has been lost to mainstream TV and yet the BTCC is still in there.

Good on Gow if he has managed to retain ITV -because non of us "armchair experts" here could have done it.

Oh and to "Jas", obviously your comments in this thread show an unhealthy dislike for the BTCC. You do nothing but try and talk up the WTCC and talk down the BTCC.

Well it must really stick in your throat that the BTCC (if what you say is correct) will still have the best TV deal in UK car racing, still has a bigger/better profile than the WTCC in the UK and still shows real growth in competitors and spectators when the WTCC has effectively stalled.

But, a question; How much does the WTCC pay you to be their cheerleader? lol

And another; why do you bother going onto a BTCC forum just to try and talk the series down and be Mr Negative? 'Cause its not working - despite your best efforts the BTCC is in far better health than it has been for many years.

Let me guess....are you a failed BTCC driver or entrant who has a real chip on his shoulder? Or are you just another "armchair expert" who thinks he knows how do things better than anyone else?

I'm not paid by WTCC - don't be a child, you are the sort of poster that gets this type of forum a bad name.

If you took the time to read my posts you will see that all through this thread and many others I have been worried about the effect of reduced - or at in the first instance a possibility of no Network TV coverage for the premier UK race series.

If I was so anti BTCC I just wouldn't bother or care about what was going on. Quite the reverse. I am genuinely worried about the health of the series.

Good points - lots of new entries in the new attracted by 'cut price' regulations

Bad points - 2/3 of the grid are 'fillers' - half the network Tv coverage of last year - that's half the audience - bad for the people who pay - the manufacturers and sponsors

With any luck more people will go and see a round of BTCC when it's close - I still think that live on ITV 4 is a waste of space - I expect that when the highlights air on ITV 1 (even if they are late at night on a Sunday) they will draw a significantly bigger audience.

I should also say that I recognise your right to be rude and abuse me - why can't you recognise my right to express an opinion? At no time have I tried to recruit anyone - purely passing on information

Happy season [lol]

JAS

If the BTCC will get every race live either on ITV1 or ITV4 plus ITV1 highlights then thats a damn good TV deal in anyone's language and far better than anything else around (other than F1 and bikes).

Compare it to the WTCC, supposedly the best championship in the world - the WTCC has no new manufacturers (actually has recently lost or reduced manufacturer involvement), has virtually no profile in this country and shown zero growth lately.

As BTCC now use the same cars as WTCC and the increased numbers have come from using the WTCC, then how do you figure it's 'cut-price' regulations.

Why should you be worried about the health of the BTCC? Every indicator shows the opposite. It's the health of the WTCC you should be worried about.

Setanta? *sigh*

Can't get it at uni, can't afford it if I did....

Enjoy it, you lucky rich people, make it a sucess because I can't join you! :(

On the other hand, Eurosport will be showing the WTCC live, and its supporting single seater thing, if only they had the racing of the BTCC then I'd probably be swayed by the end of the year (they seem to show same day support stuff too, albiet on Motorsport weekend)

Oh well.....not exactly the best news for me but at least its being shown somewhere should I...win the lottery or something... :S

Yep me too. I don't want to have to subscribe to Setanta if I can help it as the extra £15 a month will send the cost skywards. Come on Itv, pull your finger out and get us some decent coverage!

The potential advantage of Setanta over Motors is that it's available on all platforms.
