Saw a brief report somewhere which said Alfa will be in DTM next year, can anyone shed any light on this for me please??

I would doubt it very much to be honest. It looks almost certain as though Alfa Romeo will be in the WTCC next season as a full manufacturer team and 2 programmes are very unlikely. The WTCC seems a much better marketing tool than the DTM to me.

Yes I admit it would be good to see back in DTM but I cant see them wanting to spend the money necessary in order to develop a race-winning car as they aren't going to want to be going round at the back behind the Mercs and Audis, are they?

And maybe the Drivers Championship with Farfus...

According Autosport Alfa is considering to enter 6 (!!!) cars in WTCC next season. Four Alfa 147 with normal petrol engine and two with diesel engine.
