Lisowski extends Scirocco Cup advantage with Nurbugring triumph

Mateusz Lisowski extended his advantage atop the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup standings with victory in Saturday’s Nürburgring event.

2010 Nurburgring winner Aditya Patel ensured that polesitter Lisowski’s race was not a simple one by beating the points leader off the line. The duo quickly disappeared at the head of the field with Brit Daniel Lloyd maintaining a watching brief in third.

Lisowski kept Patel under pressure for the duration and with five laps to go made that pay, muscling his way past the Indian and in to a lead he would not surrender. His momentum lost, Patel would then come under attack from Lloyd. The Brit made use of his superior push-to-pass to snatch second on the final lap.

Uwe Nittel was the top guest driver in 13th place, beating fellow rally competitors Christian Riedemann (14th) and Hans Weijs jr. (17th). A little further back German TV stars Niki Schelle and Matthias Malmedie and comedian Axel Stein fought an engaging battle, with Stein proving particularly impressive in his handling of a hairy moment following contact with Schelle.

Lisowski continues to head the championship on 248 points with Lloyd now his nearest competitor on 201. Ola Nilsson is an increasingly distant third, 61 points in arrears of Lisowski. The series’ next event is a trip to British venue Brands Hatch (September 4).
