Whincup will consider NASCAR switch

Three-time V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup has admitted he may need to quit the series in order to find fresh motivation.

The Triple Eight driver secured his third title at last weekend's Sydney season finale, beating team-mate Craig Lowndes to the crown after a campaign in which he added ten wins to his career tally.

But Whincup, who is still just 28-years-old, says he may need to quit Supercars for a new challenge. He suggested a switch to NASCAR, a route that fellow countryman Marcos Ambrose took following two Supercars title triumphs.

“I’ve put all my effort into the V8 Supercars Championship and I’m really enjoying my time over here, but maybe one day I’ll need a new motivation,” said Whincup.

“If I’m going to go anywhere, it will certainly be over to the US and I’ll have a look at the NASCAR scene.”

However Whincup's more immediate concern is a well-earned post-season rest.

“At the moment, I’m looking forward to my break. It has been a long hard year,” he said.

“I was worried that my team-mate was going to do a Tony Stewart on me and beat me at the last round. Thankfully, that didn’t happen and we got across the line.”
