Nissan set to join V8 Supercars in 2013

Japanese manufacturer Nissan have become the latest major car company to be linked with a V8 Supercars assault in the near future.

The new-for-2013 Car of the Future regulations are set to open the series up to a number of potential entrants, with the likes of BMW and Chrysler - as reported by Motors TV last week - linked to a Supercars assault.

But Nissan have now emerged as virtual certainties to join the series, a move that would end Ford and Holden's stranglehold on the competition.

According to Australia's Daily Telegraph newspaper, Nissan's addition will be confirmed tomorrow when Supercars has promised to make ‘one of the most significant announcements in the history of the sport.’  Kelly Racing have been touted as favourites to link-up with the Japanese company should they join the series.

Nissan last competed in top-line Australian touring car competition in 1992, with Mark Skaife claiming the title and Bathurst 1000 honours aboard a Skyline R32.
