Lexus set to return to Superstars with youngster Faccin

Lexus could soon be back in the International Superstars Series after the ISF model hit the track this week with a young Italian driver.

The car, prepared by the MRT by Nocentini squad, was tested at Franciacorta with newcomer Michele Faccin behind the wheel.

The 22-year-old previously raced in Formula Renault and the European F3 Open, before making a switch to the Mégane Trophy Eurocup last year and finishing sixth in the standings.

MRT’s Lexus previously appeared at the season opener at Monza with Simone Monforte in the driving seat, but team boss Mauro Nocentini says he is aiming to field two of the cars in the 2013 season.

“I think I can be quite satisfied at the moment, despite hitting some assembly troubles,” said Nocentini. “The car, thoroughly modified in the last few months, responded well. Our Lexus have always been fast, but last year we were constantly facing electronic issues that should be no longer there thanks to the team's hard work. This test showed that we are working in the right direction, and next week we'll hit the track at Vallelunga to push even harder. I strongly believe in the success of Superstars and I look forward to field two ISF racecars in 2013.”

Faccin added: “I'm really proud to have become part of the Superstars world. First I want to thank Mauro Nocentini for giving me this opportunity. This shakedown enabled me to understand the car better. It's really fast and the torque is also outstanding. For me, Superstars will represent a great occasion and a step forward in my professional career.”

Lexus would join a number of other manufacuturers currently present in Superstars, including Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Maserati and Mercedes.
