Fisichella to race Superstars Maserati at Vallelunga

Giancarlo Fisichella will make his Superstars Series debut in the Maserati Quattroporte at Vallelunga.

The Grand Prix winner will race the Swiss Team-prepared car at his local circuit near Rome on 7 October. The #1 car that took Andrea Bertolini to the 2011 title has already been driven by ex-Formula 1 drivers Mika Salo, Christian Fittipaldi, Johnny Herbert and Christian Klien this year with the latter winning on his debut in Hungary.

Fisichella is currently racing an AF Corse Ferrari in the FIA World Endurance Championship, winning the GTE Pro class at each of the last three races at Le Mans, Silverstone and Sao Paulo.

“Being in Superstars is a new challenge for me,” said Fisichella. “The Maserati has already proved winning last year with Andrea Bertolini and it would be great to be equally competitive right from the start at Vallelunga, as it will be an unique chance for me. Being able to race at my home circuit, a few kilometers away from home, will be an additional motivation to chase victory in front of many friends and the fans joining us on-track. It won't be easy because Mercedes, Audi and BMW will be tough to tame, but I am going to do my very best.”

Fisichella will be going up against fellow Italian and former F1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi, who currently leads the standings in his rookie campaign in a Mercedes C63 AMG.
