Italian Francesco Sini will race a CAAL Racing Mercedes C63 AMG in the Superstars Series this season.
The 29-year-old, who was crowned Radical European Masters champion in 2008, will make his debut in the V8 touring car series having competed in the LMP2 class of the Le Mans Series last season, where he raced a KSM Lola-Mazda.
Sini tested the C63 at Magione last week and, on old tyres, was close to the car’s 2009 qualifying times at the same circuit.
“At the end of the last season, my goal was to stay in a competitive series with a good media visibility” said Sini. “I followed the evolution of Superstars Series from an outside point of view, and was impressed by its stunning growth. TV coverage and media exposure did the rest.
“I see CAAL Racing as a true reference point for the series, as they lined-up since the very beginning and kept fighting at the front with the top manufacturers' team. I find it really fascinating to develop a car like the Mercedes C63 AMG, which has a lot of potential. It'll be definitely something different from the open-wheel cars and prototypes I've driven before”
The team will also field a second Mercedes in the 2010 series.
Watch the Superstars series on Motors TV (Sky Channel 413, Virgin Media 545) in 2010.
