WSR: SG Formula fails to make FR3.5 grade

24 cars are scheduled to line-up for this weekend’s opening Formula Renault 3.5 round at Motorland Aragon, Renault-Sport has announced.
The biggest surprise involves pre-season pace setters SG Formula failing to make the grid after being unable to find a second driver to race alongside Jean-Eric Vergne. The Frenchman, who proved the man to beat throughout the winter, had hoped to fight for the championship alongside his British F3 commitments.

"The problem is that SG Formula does not have a second driver and without one there is no chance to race," said Vergne. "It's a big shame as it's not like we were P10 in testing, we were always among the fastest. It is such a shame."

Other changes see the Motorsport Consulting GmbH-managed Interwetten.com Racing replaced by the FHV GmbH-managed FHV Interwetten.com team. They will make their debut in the championship with reigning Euro F3 Open champion Bruno Mendez and fellow Spaniard Sergio Canamasas.

Esteban Guerrieri meanwhile makes his return to the series with ISR after his one and only appearance last season. The Argentinean spent the majority of 2009 in Superleague Formula but will be able to count on FR3.5 race-winning experience from 2008 when driving for Ultimate Motorsport.
