WSR: Fortec confirm Pentus

Fortec Motorsport has confirmed that it has re-signed Sten Pentus for the 2010 Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

The Estonian driver finished 12th in the standings with the Mofaz Fortec team last season and will stick with the Fortec Motorsport side of the operation which split from Mofaz Racing during the winter.

The 28-year-old Pentus spent his winter competing in the New Zealand-based Toyota Racing Series, winning twice with Giles Motorsport and finishing third overall, and is looking forward to his second full season in the World Series by Renault.

“The 2009 season was a big step in my career and we really built a great working relationship with the Fortec team, and I feel I made real progress on so many fronts,” Pentus said. “For this reason I am really pleased to be able to continue that relationship with Richard and the whole team for this year.

“I know how much I have learned and improved since this time last year and I am determined to fight for the results we all believe can be achieved”.

Pentus tested with Fortec at Barcelona last week and, after completing his race deal, will link up again with the British squad at the second official Formula Renault 3.5 Series test at Jerez next on 13-14 March.

“Seeing Sten’s development during last season,” said Fortec Motorsport owner Richard Dutton. “The excellent relationship he built with the team was very satisfying, and to be able to have continuity of personnel and driver for this year gives me a lot of confidence for the coming season”.

“I believe the tremendous progress Sten made and the experience gathered last year will make both Sten and Fortec serious contenders for the 2010 Championship”.

Fortec is set to announce its second driver shortly. The team tested the Spaniard, Sergio Canamasas, in the Barcelona test.
