Superleague Formula set for collective test at Navarra

Superleague Formula will hold a two-day test at Spanish venue Navarra this month ahead of the series’ end-of-season flyaway races in Brazil and Asia.

The championship has already run races in Holland and Belgium this year but a scheduled event in Russia was canned when the hosting Smolensk Ring circuit confirmed that it would not be ready in time for the planned September date. As such Superleague’s next round is a Brazilian double-header over the weekends of October 8-9 and 15-16.

A collective test has therefore been organised to bridge the gap between races, with teams slated to hit the Spanish circuit on August 30-31. British-based Atech Reid plan to send four cars to Spain, with regular drivers Frederic Vervisch and Filip Salaquadra set to be joined by potential new recruits.

“We have lots of interest from Brazilian drivers who want to come and test before the Brazilian race, hopefully with the intention of running one of them over there,” said team boss Anthony Reid. “We are always keen to talk to other drivers who may like to come and join us with a view to next season.”

“Navarra will be a great opportunity for our teams and some of our newer driver to fully explore their car set-ups,” added Superleague technical director Steve Farrell.

“Here is a chance for some of the teams that may not have been quite as strong so far this year to have a couple of days to explore and really get to the bottom of their cars and maybe get their drivers back to the front.”

Team Australia currently lead the Superleague standings, driver John Martin having racked up 158 points to the Japan entry’s 136.
