Indy: Jackson heads to Indy Lights

British F3 racer Alistair Jackson will switch Stateside in 2009 after penning a deal to race in the Indy Lights series.

The 20-year-old Belfast born driver will race for Guthrie Meyer Racing having impressed the team in a recent test at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

"He's an incredible young talent and I know he's going to be a formidable force on track this season," said Jim Guthrie the team co-owner. "We are going to give Ali the best possible equipment, surround him with a stellar team and let him do the rest. I'm excited to see him racing in America and I know that his career goal is the Indy 500 and IndyCar Series."

Jackson has spent the past two seasons in the British Formula 3 International Series, racing in 2008 for Raikkonen Robertson Racing having previously contested the National Class with the team in 2007. He was a race winner in Asian F3 in 2006, becoming the youngest racer to score a victory in the series' history, but is now looking to forge a career in the USA.

"I'm incredibly happy to be part of the Guthrie Meyer team," said Jackson. "We had a great test in the fall and the potential of this team is unmatched. I think we will be the team to beat this year. IndyCar racing is unique because to win you must be competitive on road circuits as well as ovals. There's no better place to learn and develop than in Indy Lights and I'm excited to compete with some of the best up-and-coming talent in the world."

Highlights of the Indy Lights Series will be on Motors TV throughout 2009.
