GP3 adds Monaco to 2012 schedule

This year’s GP3 calendar has been increased to eight rounds with the addition of Monaco, the Series confirmed today.

It will be the first time that the junior single-seater category has raced on the Principality’s streets since its inception in 2010 and ensures that GP3 will have a presence on all European grand prix weekends this year.

Although the original calendar released before Christmas did not include Monaco, the Series confirmed it was seeking a resolution to the limited space that had prevented its participation there before.

GP2 CEO Bruno Michel confirmed that a compromise had now been reached.

“I am delighted to announce that Monaco has been confirmed on the 2012 GP3 Series calendar,” he said. “It was quite a task to study all logistic options to fit our paddock in an already busy environment.

“Thanks to Automobile Club de Monaco and Formula One Management it’s all come together fine. This is a fantastic exposure opportunity for the Series and for the drivers to showcase their talent around the challenging streets of Monaco and to provide, as usual, a great show.”
