GP3 Series

The latest step on the ladder to Formula 1, the GP3 Series was formed in 2010 as a direct feeder to the hugely successful GP2.

With Renault-powered Dallara chassis, ten of Europe’s top teams and a place on the F1 support bill at each European Grand Prix, the championship has become an instant hit with young drivers and boasts capacity 30-car grids at every round.

Graduates include past champions Esteban Guttierez (2010) and Valtteri Bottas (2011), who act as Formula One reserve drivers for Sauber and Williams respectively, Robert Wickens, who went from GP3 runner-up in 2010 to Formula Renault 3.5 champion the following year, and IndyCar racer James Jakes. In 2012 another bumper crop of young pretenders will look to join them in using GP3 as a launchpad for their motorsport career.
