Toyota champ Cassidy lands Fortec Eurocup berth

Toyota Racing Series champion Nick Cassidy will step up to Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup with British squad Fortec this year.

The 17-year-old Kiwi will make his full-time European debut following sporadic outings in ADAC Formel Master and Italian series Formula Arbarth in 2011. He joins McLaren Autosport Award winner Oliver Rowland at the team, as well as Ed Jones and Finn Mikko Pakari.

“I’ve been working towards racing in Europe from the moment I started karting, so to have this opportunity to race with Fortec is still hard to believe," said Cassidy.

"Racing in the Eurocup is the first step in pursuing my ultimate objective. I’m under no illusions as to how hard it will be and how much work has to be done, but I’m determined to make the most of this great chance,” he added.

Cassidy follows fellow countrymen Brendon Hartley, Richie Stanaway and Mitch Evans in switching to Europe following Toyota Racing Series title glory.
