FPA: Holmstoel has first ever racing car test

Teenager Joachim Holmstoel had his first ever racing car test in a Formula Palmer Audi machine last week.

The karting star, who is currently at school in the south of Spain, is planning a graduation to the British-based single-seater series next year and may contest certain events at the end of the current season.

He sampled the 300bhp car at Bedford Autodrome and was pleased with the way things went after attracting complimentary feedback from the series’ engineers.

"The test went really well," said Joachim. "The power delivery was a real surprise, particularly when the turbo kicked in! It was quite hard initially as it was my first time in a racing car but I picked it up as the test went on, and I was on a similar pace to other guys by the end of the day.

“I am really looking forward to getting back in the car as I will be more comfortable and will have a greater understanding of how the car reacts.”

Holmstoel confirmed that he intends to continue his karting career in 2010 but is hoping to use FPA to climb the single-seater ladder towards Formula One.

"I will probably do some more international karting during the 2010 season," he confirmed. "I hope to have a couple of outings in Formula Palmer Audi towards the end of the year. FPA is great value for money and the link with Formula Two is fantastic - if you can win the prize towards a drive in F2 then you are a stepping stone away from Formula One, which is perfect."
