F.BMW: Harvey closes in on title with Monza polesJack Harvey is perfectly placed to secure the last-ever Formula BMW Europe title after qualifying on pole for this weekend’s season finale at Monza. The Briton made best use of traditional slipstreaming tactics often seen at the fast Italian circuit to seal pole for both races on his penultimate and final runs. Importantly, Harvey’s only title rival Robin Frijns was unable to find a tow and will start just eighth and sixth. George Katsinis completed the Fortec Motorsport front row lockout for race one while this year’s rookie champion Carlos Sainz Jnr impressively claimed the runner-up spot for second without the benefit of a slipstream. His time was only 0.004sec shy of Harvey. Sainz also wound up third for tomorrow’s opener ahead of Javier Tarancon and his DAMS team mate Luciano Bacheta, making a second appearance in the championship. Daniil Kvyat, who had earlier been on provisional pole, took sixth with Côme Ledogar and Frijns completing the top eight. Bacheta meanwhile starts race two from third ahead of Tarancon, Kvyat, Frijns, Ledogar and Hannes Van Asseldonk. Harvey holds a nine point lead over Frijns with 60 still up for grabs in the weekend’s two races. Catch the final-ever Formula BMW Europe races on Motors TV.
