F.BMW chassis set for new home

The Mygale-built chassis currently used in the Formula BMW Europe category could be set for a new challenge next year.

With BMW deciding to scrap the series at the conclusion of the 2010 season struggling British single-seater championship Young Guns is investigating the possibility of using the cars in 2011. The BARC is set to overhaul the Young Guns category, which has struggled to attract more than six starters per-race this season.

"We're investigating what to do for next season, but we’ll switch the focus to the Formula BMW cars," BARC's business manager Ian Watson told Motorsport News. "There will be plenty around now the European series has been axed and there are a lot of cars owned by British teams. We think it's the ideal entry level car."

Young Guns, which restricts entry to competitors aged between 16 and 19, currently uses a JKS chassis fitted with a 750cc motorcycle engine.
