Guerin joins F2 field

Brazilian Victor Guerin will join the FIA Formula 2 field for this weekend's round in Portugal.

The 19-year-old has experience in his native F3 and the Italian series, competing there last season with moderate success. This year he has turned out for Super Nova's Auto GP squad, alongside current points leader Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, and is expected to dovetail the programmes for the remainder of the season.

"I am very happy to be racing with Formula Two," said Guerin, who will campaign the number 15 machine. "I think it is a very good car to drive, and I know also that it is a very competitive championship, where I can learn a lot. I hope to do my maximum, and finish both races in a nice position."

F2 chief exec Jonathan Palmer added his congratulations to the incoming Guerin.

"It is a pleasure to welcome an up and coming talent like Victor to the F2 grid," said Palmer. "Brazil has a history of producing some fantastic drivers and I look forward to watching Victor get up to speed in the Williams JPH1B.

"It is never easy jumping into a championship as competitive as F2 mid-season, but Victor's past experience should serve him well."

Guerin is the second driver to be added to the F2 field this week following fellow Auto GP man Max Snegirev's confirmed return to the series. However numbers for round two remain unclear, with some, including reigning Formula Renault BARC champ Dino Zamparelli, having only confirmed their participation in the season-opening Silverstone event.
